Tom Clancy Proved us Wrong

Most serious gamers would probably would agree that games that aren't originally games, like based on films or books but then Tom Clancy, with his series of award-winning novels created the ubisoft company. They brought us Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell, the Six Team in Rainbow Six, Bill Tanner in Driver etc, and what a series of games. Thank you to the man who brought his own version of gaming to the table. Thank you to the man who proved us wrong. Thank you to the man who brought us the marvellous games from Ubisoft; to Tom Clancy, thank you.

What really is the best gaming system?

Now it is easter and that means that most of us will be of work/school, spending our time with our families, eating easter eggs and of course playing on consoles. So if you are one of the lucky people on this earth who has all the seventh-generation consoles; The 360, The PS3 & The Wii then you are going to be spoilt for choice. So that leads to the question, What really is the best 'seventh-generation' console?

The really important areas are of course price, graphics, navigation & online gaming. Firstly the Xbox 360. It has been around longer than its competition which gives it the advantage in the area of price but what about graphics? I think most of you people like myself who have a 360 can safely say that you do get excellent graphics, dashboard is easily navigated and understood. Then of course there is the Xbox's speciality: Online. It has the best online system of all three consoles with its easy chat, downloadable stuff & great online gaming.

The PS3 does have online and the gaming side of the online system is good but instead of chatting to your friends you have to constantly interrupt your game so that you can send a type of e-mail where as the 360 it can just be done quickly by headset. The PS3 also does have good online downloads, it has very simple menu navigation but then there comes the price. The PS3 is nearly double the price of the 360 & Wii, making it easily unaffordable by most families.

Then there is the Wii. Sincerely popular, the middle priced and the middle one in terms of release date. It has not the best graphic quality but it's brand new interaction with Wii Remote really spices up gameplay. However, it does have an internet channel but no online gaming or proper chat features. It does have a kind of e-mail system but not good like the chat features on 360.

I think that the Wii is 3rd. It makes a great effort with its new take on gaming but loses out on graphics & online gaming. I think that the PS3 is 2nd. It does make every field but the price just begs the question; Can it be afforded? So my personal winner is the Xbox 360. Graphics, Gameplay, Online, Price, Menu Navigation it just gets them all in the bag and is easily the best of the lot. Let's see what happens in the Eighth-Generation..!

Are Sequels really worth it?

You go into your local GAME or if you're me you're local Gamestation, you see the game, you buy it & you take it home to play. Couple of days and you are nearing the end. The game does close but does seem to leave room for a sequel. You then see on your favourite gaming site (GameSpot!) that there is a sequel coming out. Seen as the first one was great there is no need to debate, you are buying it. You take it home and it just isn't worth it. Halo. Halo 1: Absolutely Mindblowing Halo 2: Good, but not as good as 1 Halo 3: Anti-Climax. Of course, Games can improve. The GTA Series gets better and better each time with GTA IV looking to be mind-blowingly awesome! However, because of the first games you will buy the new additions to the series so what i'm getting at is, could game makers just make any old tat for a sequel and know that they will still be raking in the cash because of the prequel? Eh..

March could be a good gaming month

I worked hard to finish Rainbow Six Vegas. I also did it quite quickly so you could imagine my anger when I come to the end and it says to be continued. Clever marketing strategy to get you to by the sequel, but also a nice way to really irritate gamers. Finally, that wait is nearly over. With March closing at the end of Q1, there could a nice couple of games that you might want to dig in your pockets for. As I've just mentioned, Rainbow Six Vegas 2. If you haven't been on the first one go to a shop and buy it (even pre-owned if you just want to skip through) or rent from your nearest Blockbuster as I highly recommend it! Some of us are attracted to other areas of gaming so maybe you street driving game fans might like Midnight Club: Los Angeles or you may be attracted to other games like Condemned 2, Haze & Time Crisis 4. I'm sure you will see something that you will want to play on into the night because, I think, this has been a great Q1 to start the 2008 Gaming Year!
