Ahahahaha, Tiamat is a really badass boss, no, wait; it is the FIRST badass boss of many to come. When I lost to him for the 13th time I realized my level was terribly low. Just get your characters around level 30 or so and Tiamat will be easy... two or three levels more and the Elder Wyrm will be a piece of cake too. Just level up and try your luck; if you still find it to be a hard boss, turn around and level up some more.
Ah, by the way... be sure to level up all of your characters. Believe me, you will be happy to do solater (my Penelo was useless and now she is practically one of my tanks).

I would agree. ... Penelo rules later in the game. At least she did for me!
I've had, I think, three controllers since I bought my PS2 years ago. I noticed the problems with one of them while playing God of War II. That game requires a lot of R1 pressing. And I think that on another one the (X) key got stuck. Yeah, the R1 and (X) keys would come unstuck -- but only for a short time.
Still, breaking eight controllers seems a bit excessive.
wow you guys fail at life. i was at level 100 there. wow you`re slow . i beat t he game 2 times before you posted. with the ultimate weapons.FFuematsufan
Then I guess we all fail at life ... because the levels only go up to 99. The highest I got to was 74, after defeating the 13 espers, Hell Wyrm and vanquishing 90 percent of the rare game. I did not defeat Yiazmat because, honestly, I did not have the patience to grind up to level 99. And, OK, I did not have the Tournesol or Durandal. I picked up the Ultima Blade in the Subterra.
I found the Elder Wyrm to be my biggest problem at that point in the game. I had to attempt the battle six times (I think). You just need to be ready to heal people (especially Larsa, with all his Hi-Potions) and get rid of status effects. That is really the key. Tiamat was a breeze compared to Elder Wrym. Of course, you could always run for The Feywood to access the Paramina Rift, and thereby, Mt. Bur-Omisace.
This is the second time I have played through the game. I bought it once and then purchased it again months later. This time I put much more effort into the game, completing as much of it as I could. I have to say that the final battles (Gabranth, Vayne, Vayne Novus, The Undying) are a joke compared to the higher-end marks and espers.
I can't remember what level my characters were at while I was in the jungle. My characters were evenly leveled. ...
But I do congratulate FF on his or her awesome gameplay.
