The programs you need are: Paint (unless you are usingImages from a Digital camara), Gamemaker7(Free unless you buy the pro package which you don't need for this) and Microsoft GIF Animator(the top one with the rabbit)
Images which can be used:anyimagefrom a non video website, uploaded from a digital camara, a self created image on Gamemaker and these 2 video websites (youtube and dailymotion)
OK first open Game maker, and click on the "Create a sprite" option on the tool-bar (looks like a red pacman).
Then a window will pop up and click "Edit Sprite".
Another window will then pop up then click on the blank sheet of paper which will allow you to resize the image (I'll set it the demonstration to 300x150 but you can put it to what you want)(it's 80x 80 if you want it for your avatar)
Now it's time to get your images. Open up Paint (unless you are making your own Image using Game-maker).
Making own Image using Game maker: on the sprite editor window on game maker double click on the picture to edit it and create your image (click on the green tick in the top left corner when done editing) then click on it once (highlighting it) then copy and paste it the edit the next continuing the cycle till your done.When you are done click the "save sprite as a gif image" button on the toolbar.
Using a digital camera image: Upload the picture/pictures onto your computer, view a preview of the picture then follow the "Using a non copy and paste image off the internet:" instructions to complete.
Using an able to copy and paste image off the internet: copy and paste "image 0"on sprite editor to the amount of images you will use, then copy and paste the images you will use (from the internet into paint and resize them to fit the size of your image onsprite editor, then double click on theeditor image to editthen pastethe resized imagefrom paint onto it oncepasted press the green tick in the top left corner then continue the cycle till done.(note: paste to the images in the right order) once you've finished click the "save sprite as a gif image" button on the toolbar.
Using a non copy and paste image off the internet: Press the PrtSckey on your keyboard when you see the image you want to use (but cant copy and paste) on the internet then press paste on paint, this should pastewhat was shown on the screen when you pressed the PrtSc key then use the dotted rectangle on the side toolbar to drag around and select the part you want then resizeit to fit the size of your image onsprite editor, then double click on theeditor image to editthen pastethe resized imagefrom paint onto it oncepasted press the green tick in the top left corner then continue the cycle till done.(note: paste to the images in the right order) once you've finished click the "save sprite as a gif image" button on the toolbar.
Now for the Final step open Microsoft GIF animator and click on the "Open" Icon (second to the right on the toolbar) and open the GIF image you made on game maker. Your Imageshould appear, and on the rightsideunder the toolbar there should be some tabs click on the animation one, thenclick on the box beside looping then on the one beside repeat forever.
Now click on the Image tab and the amount of time/duration (separately)for each frame of your image,check your Icon by pressing the play Icon on thetoolbar,once the timing is perfected save andCongrats you have finished.
