Now they are at eight albums, and my are The Offspring still going surprisingly strong. The two singles so far of this album are 'Hammerhead' and 'You're Gonna Go Far, Kid', even though 'Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?' was originally meant to be the second single for the album.
The opening of the album, 'Half-Truism', kicks in as hard as any Offspring album does, with fast blast beats and simple chords to get together a consistently fast opener. After this finishes, they go into 'Trust In You', a simple yet very good rock song of good proportions. 'You're Gonna Go Far, Kid', sadly enough, reminds me strongly of Panic! at the Disco, which shocked the hell out of me, but it is a tune you can bop to and lots of little emo waves of twelve and thirteen year old girls should think this song is a godsend. The first single, 'Hammerhead', has a very powerful beginning, kicking in hard, everyone at once, and stays hard rock for the entirety of the song. 'A Lot Like Me' may sound mopey at first, but believe me, there IS a worse ballad on this album. Now, onto 'Takes Me Nowhere', a Punk Rock ****c sounding track, it kept me happy. Then, 'Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?', is simply the best soft song on the album, unless I am missing something big. 'Nothingtown' is yet another Punk Rock sounding song, this'll have the masses singing at concerts, all the time, I can see it. 'Stuff Is Messed Up' is actually meant to be called **** Is **** Up, but GameSpot won't even let me say that, so that in itself is proof enough that they named it efficiently. 'Fix You', a very, very, very slow song for Offspring standards, and goes into different bounds for them, but regardless, I really don't like this song, it doesn't work for me. 'Lets Hear It For Rock Bottom' is the eleventh track, being a bouncy song with a straightforward chorus and a pop sounding riff going all the way through the mid of the song. The final (regular) song on the album, 'Rise and Fall' (probably their idea of the title track), kicks in way harder then the rest of the second half of the album, with anthemic lyrics written well for the beats that accompany, and this song actually has a full on solo in it, which is rare for them these days. Now, the Japanese Bonus track, O.C Life, is a cover of Rikk Agnew from the early 80's, yet another of Offspring's countless punk covers. But they do this well, really well, it doesn't sound as much punk as it does rock, which I really like.
This new album is a thriller if you tried to get into 'Splinter', this album does remind me a lot of Conspiracy of One, bar the really annoying single featuring washed-up rappers, this is a BETTER album then Conspiracy of One, but I won't go beyond that.
