8th April, 2009 - F-Zero X Master FAQ in the making

At present I have begun to make a Master FAQ for the N64 game F-Zero X. Don't know how long it is going to take me, and I don't care how old the game is, I just need something to spend the time on, so that should be up on GameFAQs in the next few weeks to a month hopefully.

31st March, 2009 - Spirit Tracks and Diablo IIII

At the end of the first third of the year, not much has happened, but a big thing in gaming has. Recently the Miyamoto team have announced that they will release a THIRD game in the continuing series now comprised of Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass. No matter how fun it is, there was something within the gameplay of Phantom Hourglass that just didn't cut it with me as being an authentic Zelda gameplay system. But now they are having another go at it with The Legend of Zelda : Spirit Tracks. Spirit Tracks is another DS game, the second of the series behind PH. In this installment, Link has left the seemingly eternal ocean to go for a ride on a nice looking train. Crossing the land in this game involves going between pre-set destinations of the train. This very well could throw away another cherished love-hate drive of all Zelda games, being the ability and the necessity to go everywhere possible. To be simple, free-roaming. But now they have made it that you have stations and you can't just run in between, it might be a little odd. Whatever, there is not enough info on the game yet. Even though they announced it to be out by the end of the year (yeah, that shocked me too.)

In other news, I FINALLY GOT TO PLAY DIABLO II. Yes I know I am a bit behind on my gaming at the moment, but I just needed to jump back and play this game considering I fell in love with the first game years ago. And that is also a very good reason for me to jump on the bandwagon of hype going towards the release date of much-anticipated Diablo III. Now that I have, I can yap about it. As my current fave type I am glad to hear they are keeping the Barbarian by name and nature. As well as the Wizard, whose more or less look and abilities are a replacement for the Sorceress, they have included the Witchdoctor, which I think could very well be a changed moveset of a Necromancer, after it was so seemingly popular in the second game. As it has been noted by developers, you shall at some point ONCE AGAIN (not complaining because it's awesome) have to return to Tristram for another bloody session of monster slaying. Though I will judge obviously once I play it, Diablo III looks like it will have as much players as the second one, if not, more.

8th Feb 2009 - It has been a long time Gamespot

Okay I know my last post was in August last year, but I will assure you all I STILL DO EXIST! I have been very busy guitaring and gaming for the past couple of months, a few good new titles being Sonic Unleashed (WII) and Command & Conquer 3 : Tiberium Wars (PC), and yes I know I am a bit late for CnC3 but I never give up on a game. Might I add, Sonic Unleashed was way too easy. But that's just the gaming side. I've also invested in Metalocalypse Season 2 from JBHF, so I gots goods metals to listen to (if you havent seen it just ignore that last statement). But yeah, RESIDENT EVIL 5, it is starting to bloom these days, now that Capcom aren't seemingly scared to add new updates onto any website. But now we have Character Synopsis' and a good handful of trailers from various parts of the game. GameSpot has multiple hands-on previews, which I must say I am very grateful for. But this Sheva, she strikes me as odd, my thought is that she is somehow related to a character of old.

But enough about RE5 (as if there is such thing as enough Resident Evil), the music world is vibing, the gaming industry is FINALLY started to pump out good titles, I swear 2008 was really not that good year for gaming, and I just hope 2009 will be better, and with titles like Resident Evil 5, Sonic and the Dark Knight and Fire Emblem DS (whatever the actual title is eludes me for now), it looks like it truly shall

Signing out, (but not forever)

28th August, 2008 - Albums You Must Hear #5

Ultra Beatdown (2008) - DragonForce

Ultra Beatdown - Dragonforce

1. Heroes of Our Time
2. The Fire Still Burns
3. Reasons to Live
4. Heartbreak Armageddon
5. The Last Journey Home
6. A Flame for Freedom
7. Inside the Winter Storm
8. The Warrior Inside

DragonForce pushed out an eight track (w/o bonus tracks) album, this one being their fourth full album, soon after they re-mastered their first album, Valley of the Damned. This is album is nothing short of...DragonForce really. Over the past five years they have made a solid dent in the usual procedures of metal, and created 'Extreme Power Metal', according to them at least. If you don't like loudness, or have crappy speakers, I wouldn't suggest getting this album, because the audio is full on.

Might I make a point here to say that the cover for this album is one of the weirdest album covers I have ever seen, and god knows why they decided to choose it for this one. Oh well, it's a technical album, give it a technical cover, that's my best guess. As well as that, the only song that goes under 6 minutes its the slowest song on the album...go figure.

The album kicks off, like any DragonForce release, with an insanely powerful song, in this album titled 'Heroes of Our Time', you will stumble upon all of their known, being that the words 'Eternity', 'Victory' and 'Flame' pop up a good bit in this song, and it continues through the album. Anyway, Heroes of Our Time will definitely keep you attentive until the next track. The Fire Still Burns begins, with a new form of intro on it, which no one has heard of a DF song, but seemingly once again, ZP lets of a wail and Li shreds his guitar in half to begin another song with power through almost the entirety of it. Reasons To Live, now this song is different, other people might not think so, but as of this point, this is my favourite song on the album, with a not-so continuous tune and varying beats from start to finish. Very good, you must agree. The next track, Heartbreak Armageddon is not as fast, but still has an insane pace to most of it, and they fill in the spaces over the course of the song, good progression I say.

You might be a bit out of breath by this point, you have listened to 4 tracks that you either want to listen to again or curse at for screwing up your hearing for 2 weeks. Now, continuing. The Last Journey Home is a good one, fast and slow, boring but ear-catching. I guess I am pretty neutral on this song. A Flame For Freedom is the slow song on the album, but still, it is good, somehow different from DragonForce's other slower songs. It's all good. Inside The Winter Storm is slowly becoming a favourite of mine, it is insanely paced and changes tempo at the same time, an achievement on their behalf I'd say. They don't do this often. The Warrior Inside is the last track for those who join me as people who can't wait for bonus tracks, and just bought the eight-track album. There is nothing depressing about this song, extremely upbeat, and furious in its drumming to keep you listening till the very end.

31st July, 2008 - GOOD NEWS ALL ROUND!!!!

Since the last blog post, a lot of cool things have happened. This is good considering the accident, that brought a whole lot of irritation for doing everyday things, but I still dealt with it. Anyway, here are the cool things that happened to me recently:-

  • Went to the specialist again about my clavicle, and it seems even though it isn't getting worse, it doesn't seem to be healing either. I take this as good news as I don't have to see him for another 3 weeks. :D

  • Finished the specifics of my new song 'Shadowfall', it clocked out to about 8 minutes and a bit. I tended to go into different genres within the song, but maybe that's why I like playing it so much.

  • Finally finished my speed-run of Rome : Total War so I could use everyone, and now I can, so I can now do my serious Very Hard campaign with the Julii, Egypt, Seluecids or Greeks. Not sure which I want to do yet, but I will come to a decision eventually.

And that's the wrap on the sudden good that has happened to me in the past few days. These things are always good, nothing like something to perk you up and make you forget your injuries.

Adios,

Dave

22nd June, 2008 - Albums You Must Hear #4

Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace ( 2008 ) - The Offspring

Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace

1. Half-Truism
2. Trust In You
3. You're Gonna Go Far, Kid
4. Hammerhead
5. A Lot Like Me
6. Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?
7. Takes Me Nowhere
8. Nothingtown
9. Stuff Is Messed Up
10. Fix You
11. Let's Hear It For Rock Bottom
12. Rise and Fall
13. O.C Life (Japanese Bonus Track)

Now they are at eight albums, and my are The Offspring still going surprisingly strong. The two singles so far of this album are 'Hammerhead' and 'You're Gonna Go Far, Kid', even though 'Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?' was originally meant to be the second single for the album.

The opening of the album, 'Half-Truism', kicks in as hard as any Offspring album does, with fast blast beats and simple chords to get together a consistently fast opener. After this finishes, they go into 'Trust In You', a simple yet very good rock song of good proportions. 'You're Gonna Go Far, Kid', sadly enough, reminds me strongly of Panic! at the Disco, which shocked the hell out of me, but it is a tune you can bop to and lots of little emo waves of twelve and thirteen year old girls should think this song is a godsend. The first single, 'Hammerhead', has a very powerful beginning, kicking in hard, everyone at once, and stays hard rock for the entirety of the song. 'A Lot Like Me' may sound mopey at first, but believe me, there IS a worse ballad on this album. Now, onto 'Takes Me Nowhere', a Punk Rock ****c sounding track, it kept me happy. Then, 'Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?', is simply the best soft song on the album, unless I am missing something big. 'Nothingtown' is yet another Punk Rock sounding song, this'll have the masses singing at concerts, all the time, I can see it. 'Stuff Is Messed Up' is actually meant to be called **** Is **** Up, but GameSpot won't even let me say that, so that in itself is proof enough that they named it efficiently. 'Fix You', a very, very, very slow song for Offspring standards, and goes into different bounds for them, but regardless, I really don't like this song, it doesn't work for me. 'Lets Hear It For Rock Bottom' is the eleventh track, being a bouncy song with a straightforward chorus and a pop sounding riff going all the way through the mid of the song. The final (regular) song on the album, 'Rise and Fall' (probably their idea of the title track), kicks in way harder then the rest of the second half of the album, with anthemic lyrics written well for the beats that accompany, and this song actually has a full on solo in it, which is rare for them these days. Now, the Japanese Bonus track, O.C Life, is a cover of Rikk Agnew from the early 80's, yet another of Offspring's countless punk covers. But they do this well, really well, it doesn't sound as much punk as it does rock, which I really like.

This new album is a thriller if you tried to get into 'Splinter', this album does remind me a lot of Conspiracy of One, bar the really annoying single featuring washed-up rappers, this is a BETTER album then Conspiracy of One, but I won't go beyond that.

19th June, 2008 - Aah My Freakin' Head

"ITS THE GREEEEEEEAT SPACE COASTER!!!"

Welcome all, to this fine day's blog!

Yesterday I went overboard with a particular 'substance' and I ended up saying this blog's title...WAY too many times last night, too say in the least. Alot of different things have suddenly happened I did not expect!!!

Music - Disturbed have released new album 'Indestructible' June 7th in Australia. This is their fourth album now and they have once again taken it ALREADY to the #1 spot on Billboard 100...good on them!

- The Offspring have released 'Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace', their 8th studio album, which, even though I am an avid Offspring fan, I hope is a good album, unlike their 7th, Splinter (2003).

Games - Still no news on Resident Evil 5, as in a release date everybody can trust. But it is still looking damned good.

- Still looking up info on the Resident Evil Zero ReMake on the Wii. RE0 was my favourite hands down and a Wii version would be sooooo good I would fall in love with it all over again.

- I WANNA PLAY ALONE IN THE DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARK!

Ciao,

Dave

4th June, 2008 - ABSENCE!

Okay so I haven't been too present this month, this is what I get for job-hunting and full-time helping mates. Not much too important has happened this month. A few of them though are:-

- Got Super Smash Bros. Brawl, good old eBay, you will never let me down. It is amazing, all character movesets are honed to their skills and my lord is there a lot of stuff to unlock, anything from Melee stages to a demo version of Ocarina of Time (five minutes only though).

- Continued progress in Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007, beat Lv.1/2 duel puzzles and collected most of the Powerful Seal booster (Exodia-oriented cards). 4 decks now compiled (2 booster, 2 custom).

- Bizaarely enough, started Pokemon Blue (GB) again, I guess it is just the abscence between Pearl/Diamond and this new Platinum installment, which might I comment looks very interesting (Origin form Giratina...sounds worth it.

- Cheat of the Month : idspispopd - Clipping Mode (Ultimate Doom) id Smashing Pumpkins Into Small Piles of Putrid Debris.

- New Resident Evil 5 info! New sneak-peeks and footage make this game even more worth waiting for.

And that is about it for the lonely month of May. Otherwise, I have been doing alot of stuff outside of gaming too like job-searching and writing new riffs for FFT:U.

Have a good one,

Dave

29th April, 2008 - The Sacred Stones and Radiant Dawn

Fire Emblem is a series off-the-radar for most, but it is indentifiable with appearances of Marth and Roy in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Though from two different games, Marth and Roy seem to work together very well...But anyway, I have been playing a lot of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (GBA), and I must say I am enjoying taking the most commonly used but difficult method to beat a Fire Emblem game, which is going it through on hard and NOT, repeat that NOT allowing any of your units, used or not, to get killed (or retreat, which is what they have to do when they have no health). Keeping all units alive is no easy feat on easy, let alone hard, so it is like a stop-and-start progress file, cruising about 2 or 3 maps in a day, the rest being Tower of Valni training and Skirmishes. I recognise they haven't changed much in the Fire Emblem way of being, but I still love it to death. Turn-based strategy will never die.

On top of this game I have been ready to get my copy of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (WII), which should be here on either Thursday or Friday. Can't wait to play it, considering I loved Path of Radiance (GCN), and Radiant Dawn is a direct follow-up, for once the developers deciding to have two linked storylines, but this time you are initially fighting for Daein, which is a helluva turn-around since the Gamecube game, where you fight Daein...oh well, regardless, as I always hear, whingy Gamespot reviewers are sooking about the 'unforgivable difficulty level' Radiant Dawn has. More people, simply, need to learn to do more strategising.
