Hello fellow gamers,
My topic is on what my most anticipated game of next year is. Now, I have hardly ever blogged, so don't expect me to do very well on this. I am just trying to convey my thoughts, so follow along.
Anyway, my blog is about the genre called "alternate history", or alternate reality some might call it. I will be covering two different games in the genre, not just one particular game.
7 years ago EA Games and Io Interactive came out with a game called "Freedom Fighters". It was a squad based third-person shooter, where the story was about the United States being invaded by the Soviet Union in 2003. Now, the developers obviously twisted history to make it, hence it being in the "alternate history" genre, but it was a lot of fun, and they managed to make it interesting and realistic with real Russian language, weapons, flags, music, etc. The game puts you in the role of Christopher Stone, a average plumber turned hero. The whole premise is very exciting, with Chris and others leading the resistance against the Soviets, planning such things as taking back high schools, fire stations and also blowing up helicopter pads, for instance. The gameplay was varied, because one mission you'll be charging in the streets with your squad, and your guns blazing, while in different missions you'll be under cover of darkness, sneaking around, and using C4 and rocket launchers to destroy buildings and such and other important locations. All of it helped keep it fresh and exciting. Sadly, that was not enough to save it from a disappointing ending, which really confused me, because it barely resolved anything.:(
Now, seeing as there was a big opening for a sequel, and there was talk of them making one, it looked promising, but, alas, it has since been sent to the graveyard of canceled games, doomed to never see the daylight, most likely. But, that is where my most anticipated game of 2011 comes in.
Fellow gamers, introducing a game being developed by THQ and Kaos Studios, please welcome, Homefront! This game was first announced at E3 or Comic-Con, and ever since then it has interested me. It is a first-person shooter with really the same premise: America is invaded by another country, and the citizens form a resistance to take back their liberty and their country, even though they are few in number and lack weapons and supplies. Now, I have watched a lot of trailers and gameplay for Homefront, and even though it's not Freedom Fighters 2, I am looking forward to seeing what it is like. It definitely looks like a big contender on the market, and a game that will get good sales numbers and critical praise.
I hope you like this, and that it interests you in this genre of games!
