[QUOTE="Nibroc420"] Public schools should forever be free from religion. By saying it's okay for a teacher to pray, you're increasing the chance, and the likelihood that teacher will indoctrinate the youth.

No, public schools should be neutral when it comes to religion; neither promoting nor banning it. Allowing a teacher to pray alone outside of classtime in no way indoctrinates the youth. Praying privately is well within their right to have freedom of religion. However, since they are employees of the government, they cannot impose their religion on others, such as by leading a classroom of students in a prayer. I don't believe that what this particular teacher did (praying privately outside of classtime) constitutes a violation of the Establishment Clause.

I just finished reading God's Problem, Forged, and Peter, Paul, and Mary Magdalene by Bart Ehrman; The Moral Landscape by Sam Harris; and James the Brother of Jesus by Robert Eisenman.

I am currently reading Cosmos by Carl Sagan, and then I will be reading Hitch-22 by Christopher Hitchens, followed by The Evolution of God by Robert Wright.

It's nice living near a library. :D

[QUOTE="Lord_Conker"]"Conservatives/Libertarians"? Libertarians are not the same thing as conservatives, so it doesn't make much sense for this person to lump them together. Also, Penn Jillette and Drew Carey are outspoken libertarians, and rather entertaining (in my opinion). surrealnumber5

yea, well penn is also an atheist and that counters his libertarian views and makes him pure communist hilarity

You're messing with me, aren't you?

I agree with the others that are skeptical about this. The only thing that has been removed from public schools is mandatory prayer. If this teacher was praying on her own 30 minutes before her class started, then she wasn't doing anything that required suspension. If this actually happened, then there must be important details missing from this story; or the school was grievously wrong for punishing the teacher for something that is well within her individual rights to do.
