When I was a kid, Mom & Dad paid for my NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, SNES, Genesis, Game Gear, N64 and they got me the Gamecube my freshman year of high school and they got me the Wii for my birthday when I was 20. Now I'm 22 and I have a good job and I bought my own DS a couple of months ago, and I'm about to buy a PS3 as soon as I get my next paycheck... So they started my gaming addiction, but now I'm pretty much fully responsible for it. However, I did get a couple of games from them for Xmas this year.MrPoo6321

Spooiilledd. ;o

My parents wouldn't even let me buy a SNES with my own money as a kid. I've had to buy every console I've ever owned, but for some reason they bought my 15 year old sister a PS3. Hmmm... '_'

I usually buy them myself, but I'm not against asking for them as birthday/christmas presents. 0:)

This is hard to answer, mainly because all of the DS games I've played have had text.

My bf's 4-year-old cousin Natalie likes to play my copy of Picross, even though she doesn't play it strategically, it's more of a "click blocks to reveal a picture" game. She also likes My Sims for the Wii, but both Wii and DS version use text for the characters communicating.

People who are suggesting games should also keep in mind the motor skills of this age group, since Natalie can really only move around and maybe press "A". She likes running around on Dragon Quest Rocket Slime because it's bright and cute, but she can't really play the game for the game, so while animal crossing would be pretty decent in this respect, the characters on there also only use text for communication.

The virtual pet games would probably also be good, be it Nintendogs or one of the Petz offshoots (though don't buy Animates, it's very poor).

Bomberman may possibly be a good game (though get Bomberman and not Bomberman Land Touch)... it's game-play is very simple and the charcters are bright and cute, though the AI is pretty unfair in any bomberman game, even on easy.

It is very hard to know if any of the games made specifically for young girls are good since most gaming sites don't even bother looking at them, but you might check out user reviews for the Barbie, Bratz and Hannah Montana games ( if you want your little girl to get into THOSE types of games >_> ), and games based on random cartoons on tv.

Don't forget that the DS can also play GBA games! It already has a big library of games.

ugh @ people who say that you're wrong for thinking it's overhyped. It's an opinion, you can't say it's right OR wrong.

What's missing for me in this mario game that is making it somewhat less enjoyable than platformers I've played in the past is it doesn't feel like a connected world, galaxy, or story. Which Miyamoto wants no story in his games, from what I hear.

The [original] Spyros, Beyond Good and Evil, the Raymans, Psychonauts... They felt... connected. Mario's always just felt like random platforming for no good reason to me, even though I enjoy the games.

Yeah, they're good, but they're not action RPGs, so will definitely leave something to be desired if that's what you're more oriented-towards (like me).

Orcs and Elves is very short (ala 4 hours to complete) but insanely addicting, though it's a turn-based dungeon crawler. The FFXII game is a real-time strategy.

The main action games I can think of are Lunar Knights, Scurge, and uh... argh, mind-blank...

Action RPGs that come to mind, the GBA has Sword of Mana, which is pretty good and Summon Night 1 and 2.

For DS, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is also very well-made and fun, Rune Factory is a farming-and-fighting-and-monster-raising game, and you might even consider Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime to be semi-action-RPG.

Thats all I can think of for now~ GL.

It came with my original DS and I liked it a lot. I'd just carry my DS by the strap. :P

The lite didn't come with, so no, I don't have one for it. Grf :(

Also... it's square. So they're allowed to jack up their prices.

But I also think it's the amount of work that goes into it. There aren't many 3D DS games, and it is an RPG.
