Less of a Gamer and more of a Collector

I've been starting to doubt my "hardcore gamer" status. The reason is because a lot of my games have scores of at least an 8.5. "Why is this a bad thing?" I may be saying to pretend like you're the one asking it. It all started when I was young. I very often bought crap games. I spent money on games that were horrible and because of so I slowly got tired of games. It was only until I bought God of War (PS2) that I got myself back into gaming. Now I had never played God of War but I had heard it being hyped.. a lot. So I checked it out at Gamespot.com and saw it's score (9.3). I decided to buy it and from then on I've been dependant on scores.

So, now I feel that I strictly buy games if they're acclaimed. This may be because I am scared to go back to experimenting with games that I know not much about. I don't know if it's a bad thing but I feel like my enjoyment of games varies depending on its score. I tend to (fakely) enjoy games a lot more when it scores something like a 9 and enjoy games less when I know in the back of my mind that it scored low. I even cought myself buying games that I was not very much interested in just because it's acclaimed by my gaming peers. I think it's just so I look like I have an amaing taste in games.

This may not be a bad thing though. I've gotten some amaing gaming experiences from it and truth be told, I have never regreted buying a game thus far. But I know feel to high and mighty to be playing 7/10 titles. I think I've sacraficed curiosity for games that I'm being told are good. Whether I do or don't enjoy it may be subcontious. Either way, I've played games that I'd normally never play and I (think) truly enjoy them.

So collector or true gamer? Maybe a little bit of both; or maybe a lot more of one.
