Wow. So much butthurt. A 9 is still a good score. In fact, if GTA 4 is anything to go by, it's probably way higher than it deserves. (GTA 4 went down in history as the most overrated game for a reason.)
I know a lot of fanboys want to think that the Wii U can't compete, but this really has been a long while coming. Look at last year, Nintendo gave a dull E3 conference, only to save megatons like 3DS XL, Namco working on Smash, and New Super Mario Bros 2 for a Nintendo Direct just two weeks later. The point is clear - Nintendo no longer considers E3 important for announcements.
Also, look at what Nintendo announced just last week. Do you seriously think that announcements like Zelda: A Link To The Past sequel, Bravely Default being localised, EarthBound being re-released in the west after 20 years, Miiverse heading to PC, would not make a decent E3?
1. Nintendo releases new console with a unique control scheme.
2. "Doom" is cried. Console is immediately dismissed by many people, who expect the more traditional rivals to be more successful because they have "the graphics".
3. The rivals completely fail to be more successful. Excuses are made.
4. As the next gen approaches, people write off Nintendo's previous achievement as a fluke.
This cycle has happened 3 times now - DS vs PSP, Wii vs PS360, and most recently 3DS vs Vita.
Will the same thing happen this time round? Who knows? But so far, things seem to be going down the same route.
Are you kidding? That Direct was the definition of "exciting". Many people I know have gone from being disinterested in the Wii U to wanting one after watching it. Same old IPs? What about The Wonderful 101? It's a new Nintendo IP featuring new characters. X looked stunning, and nobody could have predicted SMT x Fire Emblem.
As for the lack of third party games, you must have missed the part where Iwata said at the end of the video that another Nintendo Direct featuring third party Wii U titles is coming soon.
