As most of you know, the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls was released last year in the form of Dark Souls, critically acclaimed and one of the finest games released last year. It's a tough as nails, no nonsense dungeon crawler and one of the best games I've ever played. In my eyes, it was the best game released last year even when compared to the masterpieces that are Skyrim and Portal 2.



So, why do I feel the series should come to the Vita?

The Vita is incredibly powerful for a handheld device, it currently puts all other handhelds to shame with its quad core GPU and impressive 5 inch 960 x 544 OLED screen, it certainly has the power to render multiple enemies or a gigantic boss, certainly enough to do the series justice. Its smaller semi-open world means there's a high chance cutbacks wouldn't have to be made to for it to fit on a less powerful machine. A problem that would crop up if Bethesda was planning on making Skyrim for the Vita, sacrifices would have to be made.
The main factor however is control, offering the standard Playstation controls complete with dual analog sticks familiar to anyone who's ever owned a Playstation system. It should be a breeze to move, attack and roll out of the way with the Vita controls, something no other handheld currently comes close to rivaling.
Another huge benefit the Vita offers From Software is that the 3G models can essentially remain connected 24/7, this means when you're out and about all the messages and blood stains would still be there. Naturally you couldn't join or invade anyone through 3G but this would still be a nice addition. Furthermore the system has been deemed the gamers go to "hardcore handheld" device, what game could possibly suit a hardcore audience more then a game from the brutally difficult Soul series? Arguably the hardest game released this side of the nineties.
Cross platform play between the PS3 and Vita could also be up for consideration, giving the game a boost in online player numbers once again.
With the perks of the Vita and the lack of a deep portable RPG, I feel the market would benefit greatly from having Dark Souls (or a sequel) on the platform, in fact, I'd go as far to say they'd be mad not to make one. I strongly believe it would do for the Vita in the West what Monster Hunter does for Sony and Nintendo in the East.
