This is the problem with Crysis.Call it the best game all you want, it's was coded in a very LOUSY way. Nothing else. There are SO many games that look almost as good, if not matching, the beauty of Crysis (Far Cry 2, Call of Duty 4), and yet they can all run so much better than Crysis on even older PC systems. You know why they chose Ubisoft to develop Far Cry 2 instead of choosing Crytek (who developed the original Far Cry)? Because they knew that Ubisoft would create a much more efficient game engine that would match the visuals at a much more affordable and available price and performance level.

 

Crysis, in that respect, is a lousy game. It has a lousy code, it has lousy optimization, making it a lousy game. You know a game is lousy when you need a freaking $8000 dollar Falcon North-West Mach V to run it at barely 60fps...While a $1500 PC will run Far Cry 2 at 60fps with the same resolution.

 

If it was better optimized and they cleaned up the code significantly, I could see Crysis going to the PS3 and even the XBOX 360.

Farcry 2 and COD4 cannot compare to crysis, crysis doesnt run badly because its poorly optimized, its one of the only games that really pushes both GPU and CPU. The detail is unmatched by any other game. Dont insult the Cryengine by comparing it to the Dunia engine.

call me an idiot (and you'd probably be right as i dont know much about operating systems) but I've said It might be cool if windows came with a kind of dual boot mode just for gaming, so all you'd have running is essential drivers for gaming and nothing else. Possibly an additional mode just for single player games when not even internet and firewall stuff is running, just the bare essentials for my game to run. When I'm done gaming i can just boot back into regular windows with all its crap that i never use.frostee-uk

You can do that, its called "hardware profiles". You can select what services in window you don't want to load at startup. Whenever you turn on your PC you can select to boot normal windows or the hardware profile you created. But its a huge waste of time because it makes no difference, especially on a modern PC that you would use for gaming. To keep your PC in the best condition for gaming simply close any hardware intensive programs if you plan on gaming, and every week or so degfrag you harddrive

Games won't install properly. I'm trying to load DoW Platinum edition on my dual core thinkpad R61...but as soon as the install starts it quits with an error "installation ended prematurely because of an error". WTF! I need this to work now so I can load the patches and play the game while I'm at my cabin.

Now I remember why I went to console gaming as my preferred method of gaming.
