I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to games, so I doubt I'd get on board with this even if it was being released in the UK. The only reason I would use this service is if it allowed me to play old games that simply won't work with new video drivers/OS's, like the original Thief games.
The best thing I've found for improving performance in Far Cry 2 is making sure you have the latest video drivers for your card. Trust me, it makes a BIG difference.
Definately my favourite game of all time. The first game I ever personally owned for the PC, and the only one (apart from Deus Ex) that I keep coming back to.
What the f**k is this sh*t?!?!? No backwards compatibilty? All the motherf***ing stuff they promised us isn't coming to us here in the UK, and we have to pay MORE than the BETTER US VERSION!?!? I think I speak for everyone when I say, WHAT A F***ING CROCK! I suppose over the years I've gotten used to sony screwing me over for my cash, with uber-inflated prices and marketing scams (like, for example, the MULTI-TAP), but this sh*t is one step too far. I can't believe how much of this bollocks we have to put up with. The only way I'll be getting a PS3 now is when it's 3 years old and costs under £150. Alas, Assassin's Creed will be beyond my reach for a good while. Oh yes, and I'm sorry for expressing myself so monosyllabicaly, but if you couldn't tell I'm rather pissed off. And ZeroAlarm, you sir, are a God among men. Kudos for the "raining sony crap" metaphor.
1. System Shock 2 (PC) - If ever a cooler game has been made then I'd like to hear about it. Space ships, zombie parasites, evil computers, huge guns and psychic powers; this game has practically everything you could ever want and beats almost all RPGs hands down (except for Deus Ex, see below) while still managing to be the scariest thing I've ever played. 2. Deus Ex (PC) - This game has cool written all over it. From the near future setting to the Matrix-style clothes and implants, the cyber-punk stylings of this game were very cool indeed. The story itself is just about one of the best ever written for a videogame, while the action is still fun and exciting. The sequel Invisible War was good too, although the dark, neo-gothic style of the first was jettisoned in favour of the more mainstream, neon visuals. 3. Devil May Cry (PS2) - This game is cool for one reason: Dante is just about the hardest guy in the universe. He's possibly the only man who could beat up Chuck Norris in a bar-fight. Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening was almost cooler than this thanks to a great fighting system and an insane visual style, although was let down by the absolutely piss-poor attempt at writing any form of sensible dialogue. Why is it Capcom can't hire decent writers? It's not like they're short on money or anything... 4. Max Payne (PC) - Just about the best 3d person shooter ever made, Max Payne raised the bar for all action games. The bullet-time moves in this game were the possibly the first successful integration of slow-motion into real-time gameplay, and spawned a whole army of clones. The story itself was a miniature masterpiece, written in the style of all time comic book greats such as Frank Miller, and shown in grainy, comic-book cut-scenes. This game is about as noir as you can get in videogaming, while still manageing to pull off some of the most hardcore action sequences you will ever see, period. 5. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (PS2) - I don't care what anyone says, this was easily the best in the series. The Prince's girly whine that everyone seems to have loved so much is gone, and has been replaced by the gruff voice of a man on the edge of his sanity. That's right, the Prince has finally grown up, and kicks all sorts of mythological ass through this awesome but somewhat short adventure. His acrobatics have been taken to a whole new level, and the new fighting system is far superior to the old, with backflips, throwing enemies off cliffs, beheadings and eviscerations... The list goes on. The point where the Prince finally puts on the mask of the sand wraith is just about the coolest single moment of any game in the last 3 years, and won't be easily topped by any future games. PoP: The Two Thrones was a dissapointment to me by comparisson. It felt like more time was spent developing the speed kill system than anything else. While that system was good, the actual combat felt like a dumbed-down version of that from the second game, and detracted from my enjoyment. Also, the level design of the third game felt slightly more straight-forward to me, while the Dark Prince himself was just plain rubbish. Some games that didn't quite make it to my list are Half-Life (1 and 2), The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, F.E.A.R., and Rogue Trooper, which although short, features one of the coolest characters ever in a comic-book.
