You could try to download youtube videos with a tool which can both download and convert the youtube videos directly to mp4 so you don't need to install some sorts of plugins. I use Tunebite Video Downloader and Converter to download and convert automatically the video files from youtube and other streaming online video websites. It's pretty nice because it downloads and converts the files very quickly and with good quality. It can convert the video and audio files in any format you need: mp4, 3gp, mp3, avi and many other audio and video formats, because it's an universal converter and supports many formats.
