A journey to the past...

And there i was, without nothing to do when suddenly i remembered to go to the good ol' attic and grab my dusty (and rusty) mega drive (genesis for most of you)
I pick up the console and a couple of games then i climb down running to my living room.

After pluging it all in, i grab that beautiful red cartridge with 6 games (and what games!)
I start playing streets of rage, and what a simple yet addicting game.
The basic concept of just scrolling around in a 2D environment beating up thugs is just so rewarding that you can't stop playing it.Also the story ends up helping you, since it's easy as this (an evil organization especialist in drug dealing and weapon smuggling leaded by someone who calls himself Mr. X ends up being your target as you play in the form of 3 cops (Axel , Adam and Blaze.)

After beating up several thugs you start a fight with the level's boss, in order to finish that stage. The attack pattern is simple: punch, kick, jumping kick, grabbing/throwing, and the special enforcer once per level if ou press A (a police guy arriving by car who shoots an rpg type weapon or a machine gun, depending of the player, either 1st one or 2nd one).

While some bosses are quite easy, there are others who may be called "cheap" ones like that fire mouthy guy or those Blaze clones who seem so cheap that you just can't fight correctly.

The thing is, you gotta learn their attack patterns and then overcome them...after all they end up being easy after you get their cheap tactics.

A great salvation for you is of course the up + C at the same time when you are thrown to be able to stand up without actually falling (which saves some of your energy, especially against those Blaze wannabes)

For the final level you end up fighting all of the former bosses from last levels before fighting...Shiva!

Yes first you must defeat Shiva who is Mr X's bodyguard. That guy is as fast as they come and no, he doesn't need any weapons like someone we know..

.After beating him, Mr. X gets into action and uses a machine gun to beat you up for good (or try to), also with the help of some annoying thugs coming from both sides bugging you.

In the end he ends up being easy, especially for the fact that he uses a weapon (yes, forget about honor or other craps like that, he doesn't give a damn about it)

And there it is, a simple, short game that entertains you more than some of those complex and bigger games, just because it's pretty accessible and guaranteed fun.

And boy i had my share of fun after beating it several years later again. Then i realised...I have more fun playing these games than most of the new generation ones... i guess it's really a matter of gameplay vs. graphics in the end.

Well i gotta play some shenmue now (again after some years too :P)
