That One Tekken Player...

So I have been playing a lot of Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Being a Tekken player since Tekken 2, I can't help but look in disbelief. The game has changed so much over time.

One of my biggest gripes with Tekken as a whole is it isn't consistent. They way you play varies, sometimes a little too much, with each game. Despite this, my sister brought up a great point about the franchise.

They never look back when it comes to gameplay. From Tekken to Tekken 2 they increased game speed and added 10-hit combos. In Tekken 3, it was the first 3D game in the series. Tekken 4 they added walls/boundaries. Tekken 5 was a physics overhaul for the most part. Tekken 6 introduced 'bound'. Now you have Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

Ah, I see.

Though this could've been a ploy to simply shut me up so she could finish kicking my butt with Slim Bob, it did put things in perspective and I now have a better appreciation for their innovations with each game. It isn't that hard to get used to any of the new-ways-to-play, I just needed to stop whining and adapt. Or I could just not play at all.

But all of this positive thought changes when I see my father try to adapt to the new bound system. Every single time we play a post-Tekken 5 Tekken game, I hear the same things over and over.

This bound! It's stupid! Why did they ruin the game? What the heck?!

Rage?! Look, if your getting beat you just need to take it. All that rage is cheap.

Man, I think I'm just going to stop playing Tekken. It's just too gimmicky.

And then after I or my sister(s) beat him;

Man, this game has changed. Forreal.

Then he'll go switch on the ol' PlayStation 2 and play Tekken 5, exclaiming that that game and all subsequent in the series are the real Tekken(s).

Now before you say he needs to take his senior-citizen behind somewhere with all that griping, he is an O(riginal)G(angsta) arcade fighter. He prides himself on the several times he has been locked in the arcade playing Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Marvel vs. Capcom, or any other fighter you can think of. His Street Fighter and MvC2 skills are impecable. So, yes, he is a fighting game wizard but it is hard to see someone who taught the game to you get frustrated like this.

So this will be the first Tekken where I don't rely on my fathers knowledge of the game to get better. I now use YouTube and other peoples stupid strategy guides where they take the game entirely too seriously, therefore making the game seem more like a chore than recreational entertainment.

But I digress, I have to do what I have to do. If you feel you can help me becoume tournament-ready, shoot me your PSN. I'd appreciate it.
