New Indiana Jones movie (a good time for a rant)

I'm p!$$ed. There's no other way to say it. I just got back from seeing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and all I can really say is..."wow, I just wasted a bunch of money!" Well, that's all I can say without dropping some major spoilers. So, I'll try to do this without ruining anything for those who haven't seen it yet.

I looked past the spiritually-supernatural events in previous Indy films...things like the Arc of the Covenant wiping out a group of Nazis, pulling out a man's heart, and the power of the Holy Grail...but the major plot of this new adventure was just so out there, I thought I was watching the new X-Files movie. There is a point where you can go beyond lore and into the realm of rediculous.

As a child of the late 70's and early 80's, I grew up with Indy, Star Wars, Star Trek, and all the other great films that lead down the road of geekdom, and it's horrible to see that filmmakers are so ready to cash in on an idea that they completely ruin what the series was all about. Lucas screwed up with the Star Wars prequels (Hayden Christiansen and Jake Lloyd were bloody awful!) and Spielberg hasn't really put together a good film since Schindler's List, so what was I expecting? A bloody miracle is what I wanted obviously.

So what do we have to look forward to from these two powerhouses in the film industry? A bleak future I'm sorry to say. Eagle Eye and Transformers 2 are all I see on IMDB.com for Spielberg (and he seems to have a strong liking for Shia Labeouf), and Lucas looks to be satisfied with rehashing the Clone Wars. And why the hell does anyone care if the son of Jabba the Hutt is kidnapped? Did he really write that or was that trailer just a joke? If you haven't seen the trailer I speak of, go check it out right now...

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

So, do we really need this? I was content with the animated Clone Wars that came out before Episode 3. Hell, I was content with 3 Indiana Jones movies. What I'm trying to say is, leave these timeless films alone and let them be what they are. Don't try to cash in on their popularity if you aren't going to stay true to the characters and the story formula. Which means, DON'T DO JURASSIC PARK 4, STEVEN! (Yes, it's on the list on IMDB for 2009)

Oh, and apparently you can survive an atomic blast if you jump inside a lead-lined refrigerator. Just keep that in mind for future reference. Cheers!
