There are multiple reasons people don't game on PC. As someone who has console friends and PC gamer friends it all comes down to these factors.
1.) "I love sitting on my couch and playing games on my big 40 inch TV."
2.) "PC is too expensive to maintain."
3.) "PC is too complicated. I just want to plug and play."
As someone who has burned a video card or two in the past and has suffered critical hard drive failures. I know all too well how difficult it can be to maintain a PC but it doesn't have to be. To build a proper PC requires research and a smidgen of technical knowledge to have a stable, long lasting system. Unfortunately, most of today's gamers have become lazy and impatient.
No one wants to take the time to research if a motherboard is compatible with this specific processor and if it will support this much RAM and if the power supply will power the GPU. Then you've got your basic Windows/Linux maintenance where the hard drive is getting slow, maybe you downloaded a virus, or for some odd reason your computer hasn't booted up due to a driver failure.
Where as with a console you just turn it on, pop in the game, and play.
The PC is not a system for someone without technical know-how, that's why Apple invented Macs. If you want to game on the PC, then you need to learn the basics of how it works and how to take care of it which is beyond the scope of the average consumer. Sometimes you get lucky and you can order a PC that's built by a company that will turn on and play like a console.
buuuut... if you don't know anything about hard drive space, keeping your PC in tip top shape, making sure you don't have a virus. Even a PC built by a third party can crash and burn. You have to be willing to learn how to troubleshoot because there will be problems.
However, I will say that out of all the consoles I've owned and played, I've always preferred playing on the PC. The options of customizability are limitless and open so many doors that console cannot touch.
Want to play Skyrim with enhanced graphics, survival mode, turn into a werewolf at midnight, exploding chickens. You do that on PC.
Want to play in GTA V or Homeworld HD in 4K with amazing textures and the highest quality graphics? Play on PC.
Don't want to play Batman or Castlevania without a controller? Plug in and Xbox controller or PS3 controller (with driver hacks) and enjoy playing on PC with a controller.
Want to have the option for dedicated servers, user-made patches to fix game bugs (Dark Souls), the ability to record and edit video without being censored by the developer or publisher? Play on PC.
What the PC gives you that a console could never do is FREEDOM. Freedom to play games the way you want to play and freedom to do what you want, when you want without being forced by Sony or Microsoft.
Can the hardware get expensive as the games get more advanced? Yes. Repairs and upgrades will usually cost you anywhere from 100-1000 dollars depending on what's broken or what needs upgrading. However, it is a myth to believe that you need to upgrade every month or every year. You can future proof your system for at least five years before you would have to upgrade a video card and 10 years before having to upgrade the motherboard and everything else.
In conclusion. The PC is not for the faint of heart but can be one of the most satisfying investments by far. I've played on all the consoles and nothing tops the experience I can get on my PC, nothing.
I am having the same problem, I cannot stream any of the videos through my mozilla firefox browser but I can view the videos through my internet explorer.
This issue has only appeared just recently and I have been running noscript blocker before I had this issue. (Gamespot is set to ALLOW btw)
I cannot even watch today Onthespot anymore, which was working during the most recent episode uploaded.
Nevermind, out of sheer luck I found it.
The game is called: Millenia, and it is acquired via the Softkey Entertainment Pack. It says that the creators were take 2, but I don't know if it's the same Take 2 we know.
Hey everyone,
I doubt this is going to get an answer considering the young demographic that visits these forums, but maybe someone out there knows. So I'm trying to track down a game that was made a long time ago. It MIGHT have been a DOS game, but it was on CD-ROM and used 3d like graphics and FMV's similar to Command & Conquer DOS edition that came out in 1995.
I thought the game was called Millenium but all of those search results turned up nothing on google. So I call upon you Gamespotters to help me! These are the only hints I can provide for you:
1.) It didn't come as a standalone game, it came in a CD that was packaged with multitudes of DOS games including the original choplifter and a few others. Essentially it was a compliation DOS disc, but this game was the only game that came as a FULL version and more modern. I.E. Best 1000 DOS games etc.
2.) You were the captain of a timetravelling ship, you could fly around in the cockpit of the ship and shoot orbs at enemy ships, then you could warp through time which takes you to a timeline screen and visit alien factions. As you visit the alien factions you can influence the alien species and affect future timelines later on. If you're not careful you can destroy a timeline so completely that the rest will just be nuked and the game will be over.
3.) It also came with the game Captain Blood as I remember, and several others that are slipping my mind.
If any of you have any clue as to what the title of this game is, please let me know!
I would also like to add, that even though it wasn't his store to do such policies. I think everything has to start somewhere, and what better way than in the store that sells the most videogames to kids these days?
People had to sit in the front of the bus when the bus wasn't theirs to make a point, now a manager at Gamestop is making a point that should be heard. The education in our school system is sorely lacking in some areas, and the wrong values are being instilled in today's youth.
The last thing we need is for the next generation to be full of slackers.
For me this article was about the manager trying to instill a new level of standard.
Too many people in the education system are getting lazy and not trying their hardest to achieve. Though there is nothing wrong with that, when a huge chunk of the education system starts to falter like that an entire country begins to breed dumb asses.
I don't see where people would have a problem either, as long you had good grades it wouldn't be an issue. You got a BONUS free game if you got straight A's which was simply fantastic.
It rewards people who work hard for what they want which is what America has been all about. Work hard and dedicate yourself to achieving excellency in order to be rewarded in the future. Too many kids are playing video games and not knowing how to spell, write, or read but they can completely destroy anyone in Battlefield 2 or Command & Conquer 3. Is that something to be proud of?
At one point I was reading on the forums with someone saying "So dus anyone ply villn liar? It wuz prtty sweat and cul."
I promptly responded "Instead of playing video games, maybe you should be playing hooked on phonics."
A lot of kids are embarrassingly uneducated in these things because they're spending so much time playing video games, I really think that the gamestop manager has a very good idea and should work with it.

I'm wondering how come something like this hasn't hit Gamespot news, I would think that something like this would be far more interesting than the quarterly financial reports on the game industry. Considering that this was a manager who was rewarding students for getting straight A's in school, I applaud his effort in making sure the youth gets educated even though there could be some serious issues with his plan.
Anyone have any thoughts?
