Hi everyone, just wondered if you could help me, I have a Packard Bell iPower8620, and i'm in the process of upgrading most of the components, i've already done the sound card, and going to do the GPU and PSU eventually. First though i'm going to do the memory, these are the current specs;

Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.40GHz

2 X 1GB DDR2RAM

nVidia Geforce 8600GS X2 (Running in SLI)

457GB Hard Drive

Vista 32 bit

Apparently there are 4 RAM slots on the motherboard, and i just wanted advice on how much RAM to get really, and what to get??

[QUOTE="Masterpiece1986"]

I've been looking at this PSU and wondered if it was any good, or too much for what i need, here are the specs;

  • +3.3V = 30A
  • +5V = 30A
  • +3.3V + 5V Max. Combined Wattage = 170W
  • +12V1 = 22A
  • +12V2 = 22A
  • +12V3 = 36A
  • +12V4 = 36A
  • +12V Max. Combined Wattage = 780W
  • -12V = 0.5A
  • +5VSB = 3.0A
  • -12V + 5VSB Max. Combined Wattage = 20W

adamosmaki

thats alot thats total 116amps (that psu will allow you to have 2gtx280 in sli) . If you have the money go for it or else a good 650W-700w with 50-70amps on 12v is more than enough. Just make sure is a good brand like corsair,coolemaster,thermaltake,pc power and cooling, ocz are some good and reliable brands (never go cheap with psu )

Yea i dont want to scrimp on the PSU, the one i posted the spec for is a BFG ES-800W - SLI Power Supply Unit. It seems to have good reviews on the net. After looking at everything i need to change, i wish i'd built my own computer in the first place!

[QUOTE="Masterpiece1986"]Yea well i've started collecting different upgrades here and there, got 4gb of ram to go in, new sound card, and hopefully a new graphics card soon. Just been looking on nVidia's website, and what's peoples opinion on the GTX 280, i know its quite abit more money, but is it worth it for the extra performance? Also i'm going to be upgrading my PSU because at the moment i think its 400 watts, and i was going to upgrade to 600 watts.adamosmaki
If you gonna go with a higher spec card go with either the Ati4890 or nvidia gtx 275. They are alot cheaper than the gtx 280 and performance wise are about only 10-15% slower. If you cant afford those 2 ( they are about 250) you can go with either Ati 4870 or the gtx 260 ( just make sure is core 216). They are in the $200 mark ati been a bit cheaper but a bit slower but they are both great for the money they ask. If you only can afford 150 go with gts250 ( is the same as 9800gtx+ just withless energy consumption and cooler thus overclocks better ). Even with the gts 250 you can max every game at 1680x1050 and almost all games at 1920x1200. The Ati 4850 is a bit slower but cost about $20-30 less

Ok brilliant, well i think i have decided on a GTX 280, because over here in the UK, the difference in price between the 280 and 275 is not as great:(

Is 600 Watts ok to run this card, or is 700/800 better?? I'm going to fit the upgrades myself, so the money i save on paying someone to do it, means i can have the better graphics card and components.

Hiya, i'm looking to replace my graphics card, so i can run the majority of today's games on high setting with a decent resolution, here are my current specs

Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.40GHz

2GB RAM

nVidia Geforce 8600GS X2 (Running in SLI)

457GB Hard Drive

Vista 32 bit

I'm interested in these 2 graphics cards, and wondered which is best, ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB PCI-E, or the nVidia 9800GTX 512MB? I didnt really want to spend more than £150 and wondered if these are good cards or not? Thank you.

I just played the demo, and I felt let down abit, the HUD i can live with, but the Film grain i just can not, hopefully be able to turn it off in the final version. I still enjoyed it, but until i know the film grain can be turned off, and some Recoil is added, i shall not be paying full price for it!

[QUOTE="DopeyDavoid"]Long detailed walkthoughs are very useful things. I take my hat off to those that create them.G013M

I completely agree, and whenever I go to GameFAQs to get a walkthrough, I'll almost immediately look straight at the ones that have a large filesize, becuase that shows to me that the writer really knows the game, and has gone into detail in the walkthrough, both of which are points that a walkthrough really needs :P.

I'm exactly the same, i admire ppl who take the time to do walkthroughs, i know i wouldnt be able to do it, so to me it doesnt matter if its long or short, aslong as it helps me through that part of the game, i'm very grateful
