From an early age I grew up with a third appendage a SNES controller wired up to an old Box my parents had from before moving out of there parents house some 6 years before.
As soon as I was able to hold the controller my dad had me button mashing (Like I'm sure a majority of gamers started of with) to a Italian plumber with a moustache twice the length of his face (Specifically Super Mario Bros 3). At the age of 2 I was jumping the first few levels before quickly losing all 3 lives and never really getting thast far into the game as well as hiting people over the head with dust bins in Super Street Fighter II (Which later turned me into a mass murderer).
Thenthe moment I'l always remember. In 1996 I recieved my first ever gaming console the Brick that was the Game Boy along with Tetris and Donkey Kong Country. I never did buy any other games for the console as It was just to expensive to buy anything for it at that agewhen I was already using alot of money on batteries on Tetris which I played the heck out offand I was to young to appreciate Donkey Kong Country.
At this point my relationship with Nintendo becomes a Little more complicated. I have a Brother two years younger than me and at this age anything could set us of against each other and we would literaly kick lumps out of each other (I'm talking about cuts, bruises, stitches the entire lot.) , this meant sharing a games console was simply not an option at all. So in the Christmas of 1997 there were two seperate consoles entering the home, I got the PS1 and my brother got the N64.
My PS1 came with an extra controller and Medievel which I never actually played untill this generation on the PS3 via PSN classics. It was the start of a long standing relationship with the other Japanese giant. Now This is the console Generation that truely made me fall in love with gaming I mean Crash Bandicoot, Spyro etc etc. However due to my age I missed out on some gems like GT and MGS simply because I never knew about them and I never finished FF VII. However the N64 was the one that truely blew my mind of the two, walking onto Hyrule field for the First time in Orcarina of Time is an experince that will never leave me and one of the greatest moments I've had in gaming. The shear quality of N64 games places it firmly as my favourite ever console despite never really getting into alot of the games as my brother wouldn't share.
Then the next Chistmas gaming took of, December 1998 Pokemon had landed. I unrapped a present hoping more than anything for Blue or Red.....But I'd hit the jackpot, Pokemon Blue and Yellow. So began the most intense rivalry In videogames I've ever experienced. For around the first 20 days after that christmas around 16-18 of my friends would meet up every day at aound 3pm and play a Pokemon tournament, straight Knock-out. I won about 10 of these with my trusty Blastoise and some of the battles were the most nerve wracking experinces of my life and as competitive as I've ever seen alot of friends even compared to the likes of the football (Soccer) game we were playing to win the league that same year. Truely my favourite moment I've had with gaming and something unlikely to happen to me ever again or IMHO in gaming ever again.
