Every time I go on a website with video games as its topic of interest, many people have nothing better to do but complain about the state of the industry. First, it was mainly going on with gamers themselves, and now it is becoming more and more prevalent on gaming sites, too. Just look at the increase in articles that are about what game publishers and game developers are doing wrong.
A lot of gamers complain about the business practices of publishers like Capcom, EA, and Activision. Another example of criticism is when a franchise takes a new direction. Or when single-player only franchises suddenly begin offering newer sequels with co-op and/or MP as an addition. They don't even like MMOs, which generally do offer multiplayer on a large scale. It may be said that many of these gamers simply wish that multiplayer didn't exist in the first place.
Then, there are those game developers who complain over and over again either that games should be more artistic, more innovative (away from the massive influx of shooters)...the list goes on.
That isn't to say that these forms of criticism should be totally avoided at all costs. It's just that it seems like people are so negative most of the time and never want to really discuss something positive that they see out there. Then again, the news is generally a place to discuss whatever is wrong with our world, and people are merely placing their opinions on such matters.
I think that it is healthier to not surround oneself too much around such cynicism, and, therefore, I just might choose to spend a lot less time & energy reading the news and/or people's comments on it.
