In my opinion multiplayer is the future of gaming. With the Internet the way it is now multiplayer games can almost give the same rich and fulfilling experience that an in depth single player game can. Take World of Warcraft for example. It has many story lines that are full-filling not to mention all the back story and lore of the World Of Warcraft series. It also has in depth character development. The only difference is, it does require communication with other players and every story may not turn out the same, which is why multiplayer is exciting. When you ad the human element to a game unpredictable things happen which, i think, make the game more exciting. Now i think multiplayer is great, however you can never get rid of a great single player experience. Some game developers have a story to tell and they can only tell it through a single player game. For example any metal gear solid game. The most recent metal gear solid game had one of the best single player experiences i have ever played, and i honestly did not care about the multiplayer because i was so engrossed in the single player aspect. As of now i think multiplayer is taking off because we have finally developed the technology to make it work well and its fairly new. Also its a way of networking. Community is all the rave right now, if you look at things like myspace and facebook. I think that is kinda transferring over into the gaming crowd. Now we have clans and even social gatherings on some multiplayer games. Some people i know use xbox live as a way of communication. Since they live far apart from eachother they can communicate easily when they play Call of Duty on xbox live. Basically i dont think single player will ever die, but as of now multiplayer is expanding and growing so many game developers are catering to the new technologies. Just my opinion. thanks for reading.
