Red Dead Redemption

I've heard very, very good things about Red Dead Redemption, 9.0 rating, sxephil said it was good... but I'm not sure if I want to play it.

The reason is, Rockstar games are like a Quinten Terantino movie. They are undeniably good, but they are far to violent for general audiences. I'm just looking to figure out how gory/crimey/sexualized Red Dead Redemption is.

I have two younger brothers and parents, all of which can see whatever video game I'm playing at any given moment. I'm looking to make sure that if, for some random reason, I'm playing Red Dead Redemption and my parents walk in they won't, like, punish me or anything. Can anyone vouch for it?

P.S. I only plan on renting it, I just recently picked up Mount and Blade (lovin' it) which pretty much blew away my video game budget for the month.

Darn, gone again!

Yeah, uh, sorry I've been absent the last couple of weeks. I know I told you that I'd be posting again, but I got distracted by Oblivion mods again. Odds are that the same thing will happen many times before I actually do anything usefull, so be warned, even though I'm completely sure that no one could survive without my posts (sarcasm) you'll have to make due without me.

Sooooo, sorry to ask butsince I have been making oblivion mods, if anyone comes across any websites, forums, blogs, or data sources about good level design could you please relay that to me? Thanks in advance.

P.S I heard that the single player for Borderlands is trash, and since I don't have Xbox live I decided it wasn't worth it.

G'bye for a few days

I'm gonna start playing Sid Meier's Civ 4, so I probably won't post for a few days. But before I go I'm going to leave you a little present on the Board. You might want to check it out.

Borderlands

I, personnaly am tired of posting rants and general hate. That is why I now plan to do something productive.

I'm hugely looking forward to a game coming out soon called borderlands, it's looking great. Here are the Coolnesses:

  • over six hundred thousand guns. That's 600,000. That's more than 50. Even if there were five types of guns repeated that many times I'd still be impressed.
  • four player co-op. any RPG with co-op is going to sell, especially one done by 2k games. Oh, that reminds me
  • 2K GAMES, THAT's AWESOME! Sid Meir's pirates, Civilization four, Oblivion, all great, and the common denominator: 2k Games.
  • It's an RPG FPS. Great. That puts it over the top. skill trees, mindless shooting, character development, that's hardcore.

Any one of those would get any game a 7.5 at least. Together, man I am psyched! Except for the 21 days part.

Country Music

When I was younger, I enjoyed country music. As I got older I adjusted more to rock. Now, that I have grown inmy wisdom, I realise the exploitations that country music is trying to make.

Let's start this show with Taylor Swift, wink, wink.

I am willing to accept that she is a talented musician and gifted singer, however what she sings is not the country smusic. It is pop with an acoustic guitar. It is an insult to the genre of music that insane 50 year old farmers worked so hard to waste time with. Have you noticed that every one of her songs has the same message in the context? In case you haven't, allow me to enlighten you...

whine, whine whine, be with me, stupid fantasy, whine.

It's rediculus. Now don't get me wrong, I still believe that she is a gifted musician and deserves the awards she gets, ahem, the award she got, but that doen't change the fact that she can't drive no tractor.

Who's worse? Sugarland.

They play indie, but since one of them speaks with a southern accent,it's country. They play okay, but they will continually make references to the singers "boss man", remember the fifty year old farmers I mentioned earlier, they didn't even know what a "boss man" is. People with bosses live in the city, people who live in the city DO NOT SING COUNTRY, IT'S DESPICABLE. Sugarland, stop taking band names from board games and form a correctly described band for Pete's sake!

And of course their are all the male "country" stars around today. These are the guys who do the most obvious, least entertaining, and most repetitive electric guitar solos.

Once again, I don't doubt the integrity of the skill of these musicians, I just hate them for exploiting country music. I don't care which song that has come out in the last ten years and claimed to be "country" it isn't. They all have electric guitar solos. That or they talk about their boss, and nogood farmer has one. Either, or both of those telltale signs can be used to identify a false country song.

Once again, it's.... Contstructive criticism time!

Let's look at someone who's been doing it right. Rock for instance, they admit that their genre has changed over the years, thus the common references to 60's rock, 80's rock, and alternative rock. Perhaps the new "Urban Country" genre will be born sometime soon.Although, I doubt I'll get credit for it if it does.

P.S Jimmy Buffet and Zac Brown are an ENTIRELY different story.

RPG's today

Does anyone even remember what the term role playing game means? I personnally don't consider games such as Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed RPG's. It's gotten extremely irritating. In an RPG youshould beable to assume the role of any character you please. Let's look at Assassin's Creed, It's an RPG,

sure you don't level up based on experiance,

but it's an RPG

At least you can assume the role of anyone you like

as long as that person is an assassin in a white cloak

Well at the very very least, you can kill your targets any way you like? right?

yes, very much so. Well, as long as you stab them and cover a feather in theirblood.

It's ridiculous. I don't know what stubborn doo-doo face (ruthless censoring)insisted that Assassin's Creed be named an RPG, but they deserve several swift slaps accross the side of their face. But of course, you can't post arant based on only one game, so let's move on to mass Effect, now Mass effect is a bit better about the fine points, but is still quite perposterous.

Assume any role right?

Anyone that becomes the first human spectre and saves the galaxy momentarily.

level up system is good right?

it's better, but not close to perfect. the classes are skills the skills are all combat based except for three or four, and the thing no one seems to miss, the attributes.

complete any mission any way right?

if only there were enough missions for that to matter.

Now here's where the negativity ends and the constructivity begins.

Game developers, please stop thinking that you can successfully merge linear games with role playing games, you can't. I understand that Assassin's Creed was designed as an extremely linear game, which it was, way to go. However Mass Effect, everyone agrees, that the miscellaneous quests should have been less stupid andrepetetive and there should have been more miscellaneous quest lines. And to any new Game Producers, I've always kind of liked the idea of an old western RPG.
