Hm, I'm really into them right now.. NO DON'T MAKE ME STOP WRITING. Hehe. I collected all what I have- here it is (along with my views on the releases)
Down In It- Halo One
1. Down In (skin) 2. Down In It (shred) 3. Down In It (singe)
Eh. It's just a cd single, and all the songs sound the same more or less. (shred) and (singe) deviate from the original mix (skin), but it's not that much. Besides, I heard that (shred) and (singe) are included on the Head Like A Hole- Halo Three release.. Hm. Can you say "waste of money"?
Pretty Hate Machine- Halo Two
1. Head Like A Hole 2. Terrible Lie 3. Down In It 4. Sanctified 5. Something I Can Never Have 6. Kinda I Want To 7. Sin 8. That's What I Get 9. The Only Time 10. Ring Finger
First NIN album. I love this cd. It gives industrial a sense of emotion, of pain, and I've heard most industrial takes that away. I really like all the songs on this album, even the weird as hell Kinda I Want To. It came out in 1989, so those who liked the later cds might not like this. I'm hoping for a 20th Anniversary Reissue in 2009.
Sin- Halo Four
1. Sin Long 2. Sin Dub 3. Get Down Make Love 4. Sin Short
The only real reason to buy this cd is Get Down Make Love, which I really liked, and played often when I purchased the single. The Sin remixes are bland, and offer nothing new. The original version is much better, imo.
Broken- Halo Five
1. Pinion 2. Wish 3. Last 4. Help Me I Am In Hell 5. Happiness In Slavery 6. Gave Up 98. Physical (You're So) 99. Suck
Probably my favorite NIN album (well, this is an e.p., but still). It's on par with The Downward Spiral, if not better. If this is ever reissued, I hope to god it gets unreleased tracks, if there is such a thing on this one. It's such an angry, focused ep and I love it so much.
Fixed- Halo Six
1. Gave Up 2. Wish 3. Happiness In Slavery 4. Throw This Away 5. Fist F*** 6. Screaming Slave
Alot of people didn't like this remix album, but I thought it was freakin' brilliant. It's just as loud and messed up as Broken was. The only real problem I had with it was Fist F***- it's just too long, topping out over 9 minutes :S. It's still quite cool, nonetheless.
The Downward Spiral- Halo Eight
1. Mr. Self Destruct 2. Piggy 3. Heresy 4. March of the Pigs 5. Closer 6. Ruiner 7. The Becoming 8. I Do Not Want This 9. Big Man With A Gun 10. A Warm Place 11. Eraser 12. Reptile 13. The Downward Spiral 14. Hurt
Mm, my favorite NIN release XD. I love this cd so much. In fact, I own both the original version and the deluxe edition reissue. It's a great, great, great cd, filled with alot of dark synths, rock guitars, and pop tinges. It's also a concept album, which, imo, makes it even more interesting in my eyes. They all intertwine in some way. Love it sooo much.
Closer To God- Halo Nine
1. Closer To God 2. Closer (Precursor) 3. Closer (Deviation) 4. Heresy (Blind) 5. Memorabilia 6. Closer (Internal) 7. March of the F***heads 8. Closer (Further Away) 9. Closer
For some reason, this is considered a single.. I know the original song is on it, at the end, but this cd is lengthy! It feels like a remix album. It's a really good single. Closer is presented in a lot of different ways, some much darker than the original, some with weird little twists. I really am fond of (Deviation).
Further Down The Spiral- Halo Ten
1. Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now 2. The Art of Self Destruction, Part One 3. Self Destruction, Part Two 4. The Downward Spiral (The Bottom) 5. Hurt (Quiet) 6. Eraser (Denial: Realization) 7. At The Heart Of It All 8. Eraser (Polite) 9. Self Destruction, Final 10. The Beauty of Being Numb 11. Erased, Over, Out
This is marketed as the Downward Spiral remix ep. I can definitely see it as that. I do enjoy it, but some songs run over to the lengthy side, and some songs are a bit intimidating, such as the last one. However, there are alot of treasures on this cd, and I am glad it's part of my collection (I also plan to get the U.K. version, which has four other tracks on it).
The Perfect Drug Versions- Halo Eleven
1. Meat Beat Manifesto 2. Plug 3. Nine Inch Nails 4. Spacetime Continuum 5. The Orb
The Perfect Drug remixes. At first, I did NOT like this cd. At all. I thought it was too long, and I didn't find any enjoyment in it. However, as time went by, I found more interest in it and began rotating it more. I can say this is a fun, interesting remix album and I wish the actual song had been on it. It's not even really a single.
The Fragile- Halo Fourteen
LEFT 1. Somehat Damaged 2. The Day The World Went Away 3. The Frail 4. The Wretched 5. We're In This Together 6. The Fragile 7. Just Like You Imagined 8. Even Deeper 9. Pilgrimage 10. No, You Don't 11. La Mer 12. The Great Below
RIGHT 1. The Way Out Is Through 2. Into The Void 3. Where Is Everybody? 4. The Mark Has Been Made 5. Please 6. Starf***ers, Inc. 7. Complication 8. I'm Looking Forward To Joining You, Finally 9. The Big Come Down 10. Underneath It All 11. Ripe (With Decay)
Ok, this album is f***ing HUGE. At first, the initial listening really p'd me off, mainly because I had to force myself to listen to it. However, upon repeat listenings, I found that I liked the majority of the tracks, but didn't enjoy it as much as TDS. A year or two later, I began heavily rotating this cd, playing Final Fantasy VIII with it, and found that, though I enjoyed TDS better, this cd is just.. a masterpiece, in so many ways. It's enormous. There are 23 tracks on this whole work, and every song is just as interesting as the last. It's very recommended. It might cost around 30 bucks, but it's worth it. Mm. Love this album.
Things Falling Apart- Halo Sixteen
1. Slipping Away 2. The Great Collapse 3. The Wretched (version) 4. Starf***ers, Inc (version) 5. The Frail (version) 6. Starf***ers, Inc (version) 7. Where Is Everybody? (version) 8. Metal 9. 10 Miles High (version) 10. Starf***ers, Inc. (version)
Ok, this is, admittedly, where I started out with NIN. I was in highschool, and a friend suggested Marilyn Manson and NIN, and I wanted to hear both of them (she played several songs in art class and I thought they were awesome). So I went out and bought this one, because it was relatively cheap and because it was close to an album length. I fell in love with it immediately. As I look at it and listen to it, I don't like it, because it's a very produced, soulless sort of work, but at the same time, it's really bleak and artistic, rooted in sonic minimalism that takes a certain point of view to appreciate.
With Teeth- Halo Nineteen
1. All The Love In The World 2. You Know What You Are? 3. The Collector 4. The Hand That Feeds 5. Love Is Not Enough 6. Every Day Is Exactly The Same 7. With Teeth 8. Only 9. Getting Smaller 10. Sunspots 11. The Line Begins to Blur 12. Beside You In Time 13. Right Where It Belongs
Ok, this album is FINALLY being appreciated by me. I bought it in 2005 when it came out, and now it's 2007. BIG gap of time. Originally, I had only gave it a few spins and said "ok, I don't like this" and only came back to a few songs. However, I have come to realize I DO like this cd. I will say I dislike The Collector and Getting Smaller, mainly because I don't like how they sound, and they could have been taken off the album and used as single filler. I will never like The Collector, but I cannot say how I will feel about Getting Smaller one of these days. The reason why I do not like The Collector is because the chorus ruins the song. It's too noisy, or hell, not ENOUGH noisy, I'm not sure. Everything built around the chorus, however, is good, and it might be my analness that keeps me from liking it. With Teeth is weak in comparison to Pretty Hate Machine, Broken, TDS, and The Fragile, but at the same time, it's a good work because alot of the songs could coexist with those albums, so in some aspects, it sounds almost like songs that were rooted and never were able to join their sister albums and collected, instead, together in harmony. Maybe I feel that way because some of the guitar themes sound so similar to past songs, and because the album doesn't have a theme. I'm not sure. I'll give it some more spins.
Year Zero- Halo Twenty Four
1. HYPERPOWER! 2. The Beginning of the End 3. Survivalism 4. The Good Soldier 5. Vessel 6. Me, I'm Not 7. Gapital G 8. My Violent Heart 9. The Warning 10. God Given 11. Meet Your Master 12. The Greater Good 13. The Great Destroyer 14. Another Version of the Truth 15. In This Twilight 16. Zero-Sum
Let me start out by saying I am FLOORED by this cd, and in a good way. I admit, I heard the leak's first four tracks- I loved them, but I never expected the cd to turn out how it did. It has a theme, a complicated one that is rooted heavily in dystopian influences. It's gorgeous. In fact, I don't know if this will become my new favorite by NIN or if it will be on par with TDS, Broken, or The Fragile in my heart. It's very hard to say. I love the sound on the cd, I love the concept, and the marketing that lead up to the release is groundbreaking and original. I love you for this, Trent. It's what the music industry needed- everything is becoming so damn boring.
Anyway, that's what I own. Yeah.. I know.. I'm obsessed! This isn't a NIN blog thingy, so.. Lol.. Sorry for all the NIN craze lately. I just love them/him.
