You should really try out Killzone. It's pretty fun online, but tbh it gets boring easily. unlike Ratchet and Clank which can last for a while ;).
Actually it'd be much better to turn down all your settings to LOW, and turn off any other additional video effects (lighting, shadow, weather etc) so that you can get the best performance possible.
As far as I know, all of my friends had bought CoD4 just to play it online. It's real fun. Just like all the other console FPS games.Other games that are fun online would be GTAIV, and MGS4. They both aren't top notch, but they will pass time.
