The world looks better when viewed through tabs...

(Note: Don't forget to vote in the TV.com Class of 2005 Superlatives. Polls close Thursday, November 17) I'm leaving for Florida in about an hour and a half. My Aunt, My Grandmother and I are going down to Lake City to pick up one of my other aunts. So I should be back at about six or so, ready to blop away. :) Today I'm going to talk about web browsers. This is something I know a decent amount about, since I have four. Let's start out with the most basic: Internet Explorer: The classic. This browser is the most commonly used, and it most likely came with your computer. If it didn't come with your computer, you're one of these people and don't need it anyway. :) IE is like an antique in the browser world. It has no tabbed browsing features, it makes it difficult to get your RSS feeds, and it's not very secure. But it's reasonably fast and a bit more reliable than the other browsers. If ever I come across a site that's having a problem (Or TV.com is going nuts) I'll start using IE and everything will be fine. TV.com in particular works much better in IE. It runs faster and with less trouble. However, the inconvenience of IE (No tabs) keeps me away. Firefox: The golden boy. Firefox is full of fun bells and whistles. Tabs, extensions, the bookmarks toolbar (Which makes it easier to check out your RSS feeds) and adblock just to name a few. Firefox is most definitely the easiest and most functional browser to use, but it's not very fast. And it messes up more often than any other browser. If you go to a site with too many pictures it will go plum loco. Bottom line: if you haven't tried Firefox, try it. It's the browser I'm using right now. :) Opera: The fast browser. Opera blitzes around the internet like Superman when he flew around the world and brought Lois Lane back to life. It has tabs, but no extensions. And there are a few annoyances in Opera that begin to wear you down. For instance: There is now "Open Bookmark in New Tab" button, so you always have to open the new tab, then open the bookmark. It's a bit of a nuisance. Also, you have to refresh most pages manually. Opera saves websites you go to so you won't have to load them again when you go back, but if the site has changed you're going to have to refresh it manually. This is especially bothersome in the TV.com forums. Bottom line: If you prefer speed to functionality, go to Opera. AOL Explorer: For all intents and purposes, this is IE. In fact, the websites you look at in AOL Explorer will actually show up in your IE history folder and vice versa. However, AOL Explorer is a bit faster and has tabbed browsing. You can't add new search engines though, so the only search toolbar you get is the AOL one. Bottom Line: Faster than IE, but a bit less functional. Get it if you want to have tabs without giving up the majority of your IE features. Whew... I've been meaning to do that for a long time and it's finally done. Good. :) [QUOTE="Stats"]
