They're probably concerned about the fact that a lot of XP software doesn't work on Vista. I've had my vista laptop for about a month, and it's been a tremendous PITA. Games haven't been a problem for me, though. It's mostly been stuff like burning software and dvd movie players that have not been getting along well.
Deus Ex 1 and 2, Beyond Good and Evil, Indigo Prophecy, Zelda OoT/WW/TP. There were others as well, but they were in my kid era, when I was much easier to please.
That reminds me- Isn't Quantum Dream currently working on a PS3 exclusive? I liked Indigo Prophecy, too, and I hope that their next game is an evolution along that line.
Someone probably could make a UE3 game that is not nearly so demanding. Lower resolution textures, lower triangle counts, and simpler shaders would surely make a major difference in performance. I'm thinking that more people would switch over to console gaming if PC games started toning down, though.
bleesh! I've got the gamecube release, so the only appeal the PC version could have had would be the murder-fest that is point-and-click aiming. Of course, I'd get it if I didn't have a GC, PS2, or Wii.
No worries, you'll probably have more than enough time to upgrade before it comes out. It's clear that they're going to take their time to get it right.
I'm definitely 1000 times more choosy than I was as a kid, only playing through the best games out there. As a result, I definitely play fewer games, but that also is largely due to the fact that I put in a ton of hours at work every week. When I get home, though, there's nothing I love more than settling down with a good game on monitor one, and a good movie on monitor two, backing in their radiant glow :D
Results may vary when using the in-game and forced AA. Some games respond badly with their own AA, and others can't seem to handle forced AA. I generally try the in-game AA first, then go to forced as the next step if that doesn't work well. Ultimately, some games don't handle any sort of AA well, and you just have to turn it off.
