[QUOTE="sonicmj1"][QUOTE="Zhengi"][QUOTE="sonicmj1"][QUOTE="Zhengi"]The 360 and PS3 play video games. Therefore, they are toys. Simple as that.

You're skipping steps here. I can't follow your argument that way. At the moment, it makes about as much sense as "A DVD player plays movies. Therefore, it is a toy."
As I expressed before, I don't think video games are toys. I think that the way you interact with a video game is very, very different from the way you interact with a toy, like an action figure, or a toy car, or a remote-control plane, or a doll house. A video game can do many things, but in terms of classifying it, I believe it is a hybrid of games (ranging from board games to card games to sports) and media (movies, books, television). Neither of these things would I call a toy.
If you feel differently, I'd appreciate it if you explained why.
Just because you don't think video games are toys doesn't mean that they are toys.
Wait? So are you arguing that you can't play video games on a Wii? What's the main function of the 360 and PS3? To play video games. So if you are trying to call one a toy when it does the same thing as two other platforms then how is it that the other two can't be considered toys?
Look at your DVD example. You're basically saying that DVD player is a toy while HD DVD player and Blu-Ray player aren't because they have better graphics. Huh? How is that the case? They all play movies. How can you classify one as a toy when all 3 do the same thing? The other two might have better resolutions, costlier productions, and perhaps extra features that the DVD player doesn't, but they all play movies and have the same basic function... and yet one of them is classified as a toy while the other two aren't? The disconnect should be why aren't the other two classified as toys if one of them is.
Who the heck do you think I am? Stop attributing arguments to me that I'm not making. I'm not subrosian.
I don't think video game consoles are toys. I don't think the Wii is necessarily a toy, at least, not by virtue of its hardware. I don't resent the Wii because of its hardware. I wouldn't support the position that a DVD player is a toy where a Blu-Ray player is not.
The Wii plays video games, and video games are not toys (or at least, not universally toys). But what happens when those who develop for the platform believe that video games are toys? They make games that are like toys. That is their philosophy for what gaming should become. Other kinds of games (games that are art) suffer on the platform, because nobody develops with that philosophy.
The fact of the matter is that gaming is far more diverse than that. To say that all games are toys is to exclude a vast spectrum of other potential titles that do not fit that world view, and condemn them to oblivion. You condemn us for chastizing Nintendo's focus while giving Sony and Microsoft a free ride as they attempt to garner casual appeal. But it isn't that simple. For while Microsoft and Sony spend time on their Buzzes and Lips and cameras and motion controllers, they recognize that gaming isn't solely about those titles, but is also about different kinds of games. This is shown in their conferences, which, despite having large portions of time devoted to the casual, also featured prominent demonstrations of more ambitious games with a different focus than 'game as toy'. They believe there is room for both kinds of game. Nintendo's philosophy for this generation is different, and as time passes, they make that clearer and clearer.
Whatever the Wii's potential, Nintendo has pushed it as a platform for 'games as toys', to the exclusion of other worldviews. This is what makes the Wii appear to be more toy-like than its competitiors.
So let me get this straight. So Miyamoto says that the Wii is a toy, it automatically means that all artists are viewing it as toy? Where is the logic in this? It was a statement by Miyamoto, but it doesn't necessarily mean that everyone shares it or that there aren't other types of games.
Just like you said, to say that all the games are toys or viewed under the philosophy of the system being a toy would be narrowminded. So I'm wondering what exactly is the argument here? Are people angry because Miyamoto said the Wii was a toy and therefore it was the gaming view which all publishers are taking? Is that why games like Fatal Frame 4, Tales of Symphonia, Mad World, The Conduit, and various other games considered toys now? There is more of a disconnect here than I thought. Where exactly is the harm comig from?
And here's an argument for you regarding MS and Sony concnetrating on different kinds of games. Nintendo is doing the same EXACT thing. They are having tremendously more success with the casuals than MS and Sony, but that doesn't mean they are quitting on the hardcore gamers either. Miyamoto has confirmed that the Mario and Zelda teams are working on games. We know that Zelda Wii is under development. We know that Pikmin 3 is coming. We know they have Disaster Day of Crisis coming. We know they have Warioland Shake coming. Where exactly is it that they have abandoned the hardcore?
They might not have announced much at E3, which I understand is cause for the hatred and madness going on right now, but where exactly did Nintendo state they aren't making more hardcore games? Where did they say that they are abandoning the traditional gamer? In fact, they are doing what Nintendo has always done and keeping everything secret. We know that Nintendo games are quality games because much like Blizzard, they will delay a game until they are sure that the games are of awesome quality.
And last question, just how has Nintendo pushed the Wii as a "platform for 'games as toys'"? What specifically have they released that makes you believe this?
Stop crying, wii is a baby system...get over it...
All sheep have are sales, nothing else, besides a few rehashed series in 3D with not even up to par xbox 1 graphics from last gen in 3D, something to brag about?
So what if you sell the most, PS2 sold 140 million, PS1 sold 102 million, Wii will never reach that worldwide sucess...wanna know why?Cause ps2 and ps1 had it all, whether you want to admit it or not, the sales back up its worldwide appeal...
Wii will never become a home name, but the PS3/360 will this gen...so what if MS/Sony aren't selling as much, they've still improved and shown and advancement this gen..
Miyamoto says wii is a toy, Miyamoto>Your sheep opinion or any developers opinion sorry, it's the facts, the sheep ring leader admitted it, nothing you say will change the facts...
He even said the wii is like a high powered game cube, but, show me ONE GAME on the wii that can even compare to Killzones graphics, cause it damn sure can't touch Ninja Gaiden or Chronicles Of Riddick, as a matter of fact, seriously, those 3 games make the wii look like an N64....
So sheep, enjoy your sales, that's really all you have to brag about, unless you also want to brag about getting milked for rehashed titles you've played for the past 20 years..
Sony is releasing new lp's, MS is too, we, both ps3 and 360, get the goods, get the great multiplat games, and get the technicality hardware pushing titles with amazing graphics and immersion..
Enjoy waggling your remote control taped to a joystick at a tv with a sub par dumbed down ps2 hardware and virtually no third party support, while I enjoy great titles with great graphics..
Who needs to wiggle a remote to have fun, is that what you call immersive, is that what you call adding a new level to gaming? No, a remote controller taped to a joystick has been around since the 70's, welcome to 1970 nintendo..
What's also funny is you find 360 only gamers and ps3 only gamers, but ALL wii owners have another console, why?Cause you can't get your gaming fix of that plastic bin ps2 with a new coat of paint...
I would say enjoy what I did 8 years ago with the ps2, but it had great third party support and games, no rehashed exclusives, all new lp's and sales above and beyond anything nintendo ever had...so I can't, however, I'll say enjoy a high powered gamecube wiggling a remote...
Once you show me a wii owner who only owns a wii who's a hardcore gamer and plays no other system, I'll take back everything I say, but even you, as much of a sheep as you are, own another system or pc or you barley play games, one of the two...
