I noticed that my frames were majorly dipping in cs go from 170ish fps to 50-70 fps (i have 144hz monitor). At first i thought it was something with the game or with my pc, but then i noticed on my cpu was downclocking at those moments went my fps was low. I have AMD's cool and quiet disabled, so i dont know why it would be downclocking like this, especially under load. The thermal margin never crossed to hot or anything.

This is a bit embarrassing, its never happened before, but this time i got a little bit of thermal paste in 2 of my prongs in my mobo's cpu socket while upgrading my cpu today. i've cleaned it as much as i could but i can still visibily see a little tiny color of thermal paste in those 2 or 3 holes. I plugged in my old cpu and its up and running fine.. What do you guys think i should do? Is it safe to put my new cpu in there without worrying about anything? Should i get a new motherboard?
It might be the gpu boost, Download EVGA Precision and click voltage button and activate k-boost that will force the gpu to run at max clockrate.
Does it matter that my card isnt EVGA? Its a gigabyte windforce GTX 770 4gb OC edition.
CSGO like most valve games like good CPUs. Our phenom IIs are bottlenecks for CSGO. The map makes a huge difference too, some of the newer maps don't run well at all.
More ram won't make a difference, CSGO uses like 1GB, 2GB at most.
ahh yeah i was thinking that might of been it. Hopefully my new FX 8350 thats in the mail will help solve that issue then.
Well i have a 144hz monitor on the way so Ive been getting kinda OCD about my fps a little bit, but CS should not be running that low i feel, even if i didnt need the fps i just feel like somewhere my PC is under preforming. But ive really been noticing it barley being 100 a lot of times.I'll have to upgrade my ram and see if that helps at all, but CS really isnt that much of a demanding game. Seems like i get better fps in Bioshock infinite(on ultra everything up). I know maybe it could be CS's problem but a lot of people with worse specs than mine get better fps, even my friend who has a 550 or 560 or something gets an average of above 200
I upgraded to the GTX 770 from the GTX 460 a couple weeks ago, and its a lot better but doesnt seem to be running like it should and seems to be getting worse. I used to get between 100-200 fps in cs go (medium settings) which i still felt was lower than i should of been getting, but it seems to be going down, and will average a little below 100 and sometimes dip below 60.. Even when playing on a lower resolution (im 1920x1200 native) it doesnt change much of anything fps-wise. All my drivers are current and I've reinstalled the game and windows.
Specs:
AMD phenom x4 965 Black edition (3.4ghz OC to 3.8)
Gigabyte gtx 770 4gb
4GB RAM
ASUS M5A78L-M LX (mobo)
Thanks everyone, yeah RAM was next on my to-upgrade list, and i've also been thinking about the SSD. I couldnt get shadowplay to toggle with my hotkeys so i tried Open Broadcast Software out for streaming and that was working for me, but i want to get as many frames as i can. Dont have the money for SLI at the moment.
My specs right now are : GTX 770 (4gb), Phenom II x4 965 3.4 GHZ (being upgraded when the FX 8350 comes in mail), 4GB ram.
I've been wanting to try out streaming on twitch too, So would the FX 8350 help stream smoother compared to the quad core phenom i have running right now?
So i went with the FX 8350, is it going to work with this PSU?
It says "compatible with..." and lists all these cpu's but not FX
