I want to buy a Next-Gen console. But which one? I need you guys to help me out here. Please leave any fanboy pride out of this and focus on facts. I want to hear from experienced Xbox 360 owners and PS3 owners.
I ESPECAILLY would like to hear from people who owned BOTH consoles, eithercurrently, or at one point in time. And people who owned one and then traded it in for the other one and what your impressions/regrets/disappointments were.
-I have no interest in getting a Wii at this time.-
Also note: I currently have a fairly-high-end PC, so I will continue to play FPS, RTSand MMOgameon my PC, because I don't like them on consoles. (Unless of course they are console exclusives. Halo appears on PC's eventually, so that particular game does not sway me to buy a 360)
So, with that in mind, which console should I get?
1. The 360 RROD issue is a MAJOR detractor for me. Since Microsoft refuses to tell people what is going on with their rumored new Heatsinks/65nm CPUs and there's really no sure way to identify the faulty consoles from the newer consoles, I might skip the 360 just based on this issue alone. The sad thing is if the RROD was fixed and it was confirmed to be fixed and I could get a guarantee that my console is RROD-proof, I'd ALREADY own a Xbox 360.
2. Since I still love my PC, if a multi-platform game is released, and is available for the PC too, I'll likely get the PC version over the Next-Gen console versions. So it's imperative that I get a console that will have EXCLUSIVES that will NOT appear on a PC. I don't mind if a console has less games overall, if most of those games are on the PC too. What I care about is getting games for a console that will likely NEVER make it to the PC and is ONLY available on the console itself.
3. The PS3 is still a mystery to me in terms of hardware. It SEEMS the 360 has more power under the hood, however, with the exception of a couple games like Madden 08, both systems run multiplatform games equally. However, I am also taking into consideration that the CELL is a relatively new technology which developers need more time to experiment with and the CELL itself may compensate for whatever shortcoming the RSX may have, in comparison to the 360's ATI chipset.
4. Online gaming is CRUCIAL. But like I said, I prefer the online gaming be MORE then just FPS games. I play FPS, RTSand MMO's online with my PC, so I'm looking for a console that has a variety of unique online games in OTHER genres.
5. Online features. I gotta admit, XBL has it's perks - BUT it's $50 a year. The PS3 does get some demos through the PSN, and it's free, but it's nothing groundbreaking. This one may be a toss up.
6. I own a PSP and I own a Xbox 360 controller which I use for my PC games. Not sure how much of a difference these two things make, but I figured I throw it in.
7. Backward compatibility is MEGA HUGE. I have tons of PS1/PS2 games and I am interested in picking up some bargain bin AAA Xbox1 games of the past.
8. I will need to use WIFI Ethernet for my internet connection to my Wireless-G Linksys router.
So with all this in mind, what would you guys suggest for me?
Thanks for you help!
