[QUOTE="skrat_01"][QUOTE="Hoobinator"]Actually you cant use the computers cable for your console, if thats what I think you are saying - you need one specifically for your console. I know personally as I have a 360 VGA cable...Adding a price of a HDTV to a gaming console is superfluous to the argument. You can use the Computers monitor (even with a $10 cable, or how about use the computer cable you've already got if you've got an LCD screen. Likewise you can use your HDTV with your PC, so the argument works both ways round, it isn't a plus for either the PC or console, thus I never used the argument in the first place.
As you've pretty much stated yourself PSU's depend on the rig you're building and are wholly reliant on the quality that is supplied with your case, a $100 case is more likely to have a better PSU than a $50 one. So you may well get lucky.
Thirdly, like I've already said unless you have an older version of windows you will need to purchase a new copy of windows, or how about the new Vista or Vienna. The reason why Linux isn't included is because Linux is absolutely **** for gaming.:|
Finally the biggest bone of contention seems to be with a few extra peripherals with add no more than $50 to the price of a PC. What about all the other extras (from my first post) which hermits leave out when "building a new PC for $500". They seem to leave hundreds of dollars of needed extras out to keep prices down.
And lastly we always seem to work in US dollars, pretty much the cheapest country in the world for PC components, try buying the same components in Europe or Australia or even Japan where the prices are ludicrously more expensive.

Of course a PSU depends on the rig you are buying, and if you buy a good quality case you get a good quality PSU. Go figure.
XP, even windows 2000 is fine for gaming. So is Linux. I dont see MS putting a gun to my head, forcing me to buy Vista. You dont need it. Why would you even want it - looking at its bechmark performance.
Extra prephrials?
Ive repeated myself.
you were putting in heatskinks and sound cards. That alone is laughable, as you are searching for things to obviusly bump up the price. If you are making a new system of course a Optical Drive and HDD is needed, its not as if they are going blow the price out of proportion.
ROFL. I am Austalian. PC gaming is actually more comparable in Prices of gaming consoles than in the USA in PAL territories (dont know about Japan). Consoles are considerably more expensive in these regions, much more than PC hardware.
I am from England, part of Europe, the biggest market for PC games in the world by far and it is vastly more expensive being a PC gamer here than a console gamer.
The point of buying a new Windows was that I was building a new PC from scratch.... not upgrading an old one, so building anew PC from scratch you would have to buy a copy of windows, Linux will not do. Seems that this point seems to struggle being implemented into your head. :|
When hermits tend to list how much a PC costs they usually leave out all the stuff like Windows, new copy of MS Office for all the other stuff (no not an older copy, since we're NOT upgrading or stealing ;)... hermits), HDD, Optical drives, case, PSU etc etc. These peripherals tend to raise the price by a good few hundred pounds.
lol why would you need a new copy of MS Office for a gaming rig? and why would you need a NEW copy at all, if you already own office, not to mention that there are free alternatives out there, check open office, it has almost everything Office has and its free.
If you are posting here the odds are that you already own a HDD, Keyboard,Mouse and a Copy of Windows, so why would need to buy all those again? theres also a chance that your PSU will be enough for your upgrade, and that your ram will be compatible
if you want to include all coasts of a gaming rig include 4 controllers and a HDTV, then we can see whats more expensive(if you want to include MS OFFICE to the budget of a GAMING Pc i take that its only fair to include the price of a tv as well).
