In response to the original post: GTA 4 has sold 8.5 million and has shipped 11 million according to Take-two's latest financial report. SSBB has sold ~ 3 million in the USA and ~ 1.65 million in Japan according to the latest NPD and Media Create figures, respectively. While it is highly unlikely that SSBB will ever outsell the combined SKUs of GTA 4, it is however possible that it will outsell each separate SKU in the long term. This theory is primarily based on the lack of sales from the European market, historic trends regarding the "legs" of SSBB, and the increased installed base of the Wii compared to the Gamecube.
In response to the continuous bickering of two fanboys: I would urge you to simply enjoy the games that you prefer and stop condemning those that you don't. Both games are of exceptional quality as evidenced by aggregate trackers, Gamerankings and Metacritic.
US sales of Wii Play to the end of April 2008 (according to NPD) ~ 5.5 million
Canadian sales estimation of Wii Play = 5.5 * 1.1 (liberal 10% of US sales) ~ 6 million
50 million North American sales of Wii Software to date (end of April 2008) - ~ 6 million units of Wii Play to date = 44 million units of software to date.
Any way you spin it, up until this point, Wii is in a league comparable to PS2 in terms of North American software sales.
