If you chip your xbox and then continue to play online you are pretty dumb, its obvious they are going to detect you and ban you. People saying 'I just chipped is so I could use another hard-drive, I'd never play a copied game' are being disingenuous to say the least.

I just want online play and a store.
I dont care about anything else.
If those are free. Its cool.
Else, they can go **** themselves.

Guess it depends on what a free service would end up looking like, if they kept all the popular wanted features like cross game chat to a gold membership I think a few would have issues, I wouldn't myself.
Killzone single players is really good, Killzone online (for me anyway) is a flawed gem is has some great features but it feels like you are playing in treacle. It also doesn't have that many people playing online a few thousand max, so its not that varied online. OSDT feels a bit slicker and you have far more people online so tha game matching works a little better.
So what's MS's excuse for charging the same amount for multiplayer games and charging the consumer for Live? Games are $60 on both consoles. Where do you see Ps3 Devs passing costs to consumers? It's part of their budget.Zero_epyonMS probably use the same excuse as Sony when Sony sell something on PSN for the same price as a physical copy in a shop - because they can get away with it. You've answered you own question regarding where do I see developers passing the cost onto the consumer, if it is in the development budget it forms part of the cost model they use to set the price of the game. Otherwise they'd make the game at a lost. If you choose to believe that the cost to a develop isn't passed onto you that up to you.
its called marketing. sony has to make money some how. i hate how people complain about things that are free.Laxer04It isn't free they are selling stuff to you, in part, to fund it. The whole line that 'it's free, don't moan' drives be bonkers. All next gen. systems have online infrastructure and all the users one way or another pay for it, either via. a direct subscription model or via. an indirect tax on games developers that is passed to us. Most gamers don't mind funding the online elements of their systems but whatever model used gamers fund the online - so we have a perfectly valid reason to provide constructive criticism. No one minds them pushing their products, but in the FW3.0 build it is inescapable because you get a consent stream of adverts, I'm assuming that you wouldn't mind the ticker scrolling even while you are playing a game - after all PSN is 'free'
So if I don't buy a PSN game, how am I being charged?ChuteboxIf you don't own any games that use PSN your not, you may as well buy a blueray player in that case.
PSN is free...ChuteboxIt isn't, the costs are hidden, or when you phone company gives you a mobile phone at no up front cost do you really belive that is a 'free' phone? The costs are hidden in the cost of the game. Sony charge games developers to use PSN, those developers recoup that cost by including it in the price of the game.
If it keeps it free Sony can self promote all they want as long as it doesn't interfere with the gaming. Zero_epyonPSN isn't really free, Sony charge developers to use it and those developers pass the cost on to us. I don't have a problem Sony promoting the PSN store I just think they've gone waaaaaaaaaaaaay over the top doing it to the point now where PSN Store is an annoyance. With the what's new, ticker and placing the store icons above the content i.e. it is above the game in the game menu (sic) it has become intrusive. To be fair a store icon in the game menu that takes you to the game section in the store isn't a bad idea but they could have put it at the bottom of that menu.
