Right, here goes. I wasn't going to go to today's carboot, they don't usually hold them on Saturdays (usually it's just Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays) and I was thinking of going shopping instead. Bloody glad I didn't!
Today's haul kicks off with a few odd games:
The Chessmaster (SNES) - complete apart from the cardboard insert, very good condition, £1
Galaga (Famicom) - cart only, 50p
3x Famicom pirate carts with 4 games apiece - cart only, 50p each
I'm 90% sure the Galaga cart is legit, the multi carts are definately pirates but interesting to find on these shores regardless.
The following stuff was all from the same stall, hiding behind a boxed Millennium Falcon (which I resisted)...

Finally I got a nice-condition Mega Drive! These are common as muck over here, but they tend to be well-used and abused and rarely show up in acceptable condition, let alone boxed with all the gubbins. I was holding out for a Mark I system too, they just seem so much more old school. Anyway, this boxed example has the system, two 3-button controllers, manual, Sonic cart and manual and the plastic inserts.
I got a few games thrown in too,
Desert Strike (MD) - complete in very good condition
Micro Machines (MD) - complete in very good condition
Mortal Kombat (MD) - boxed but missing manual, fair condition
Pit Fighter (SMS) - complete, very good condition
Shadow of the Beast (SMS) - complete, very good condition
I have no idea why there were SMS games with this lot, the guy didn't have an SMS for sale (believe me, I looked) and there was no sign of a Master System converter. Oh well, looks like I'll have to grab one of those off eBay.
I also picked up this beauty:

These are pretty rare finds over here, sure they pop up on eBay fairly often but I've never, ever seen one in the wild, let alone boxed and complete. I managed to keep my cool when I saw it though. I've never really been too bothered about getting any of the Atari consoles and don't really know too much about them, but I suppose no retro collection is complete without a VCS, eh? This has the woody console, two joysticks, two paddles, a keypad thingy, all the cables and even the cardboard inserts. No pack-in cartridge though.
I also got some 2600 games to go with it. The carts are mostly in good condition but the boxes are in rough shape - which is surprising considering the system looks well looked after. The games are:
Centipede - cart and book, good condition
Desert Falcon - complete, tatty box
Dig Dug - boxed, tatty box
Galaxian - boxed, tatty box
Midnight Magic - boxed, tatty box
Moon Patrol - complete, fair condition
Pole Position - cart and book, good condition
Q*Bert - boxed, tatty box
Realsports Boxing - boxed, tatty box
Realsports Tennis - cart and book, good condition
Space Invaders - cart only, fair condition
Star Raiders - cart only, fair condition
Tennis: International Version - cart only, poor condition
The whole lot, Mega Drive and Atari plus all the games, cost me £25 (haggled down from £20 for the Atari and £12 for the Mega Drive). Not bad, eh?
Now, the kicker. I can't get the bloody Atari working. At first I couldn't figure out whether it was the console, the power supply, the RF lead, the cartridges, my TV or just me being stupid. Now I think it's a case of a dead power supply: I tested it with a multi meter and it didn't seem like there was any juice coming out of it at all. I just hope that's all it is and as soon as I get my hands on a replacement 9V adaptor I'll be cookin'...
totalgridlock
That's wicked awesome Totalgridlock! Good going I hope you enjoy that Genesis and Atari and hopefully you'll get it to work. I love me some retro :P it sucks that flea markets and carboots here in Buenos Aires seldom have gaming stuff, I definitly need to go to England and USA soon and spend a life time savings there :D
