What about their instincts tells them to do so? Are weaker lions still seen as a threat for some reason?

Think of Ron's mom from Harry Potter. She always yelled at her kids and threw a fit whenever they did something stupid. Obviously, it's understandable that any mom would be upset if their kids royally screwed the pooch on something, but the issue is if whether or not resorting to screaming and yelling at them is the smart parental thing to do. After all, some kids seem to only respond to being yelled at. What do you think?
The common argument against a like system is that it promoted a hive mind mentality, which I don't really get because that's more a "majority opinion vs minority' issue, and doesn't have anything to do with likes.
But regardless, I think an easy solution for everybody would be to just make it so that you can only see your own likes and likes on your own posts. That would eliminate any possible "hivemind" concerns, while simultaneously providing the convenience a like system offers.

@SOedipus: They're not all that different. There are victims of both sexual harassment and violence, after all.
@thegerg: Like I said before, just as there are victims of sexual abuse, there are victims of violence as well. So what makes finding sexual harassment funny different from liking action movies?
I know that sounds like an odd question, but just hear me out. The other day I saw some dudes on a different website arguing about how tasteless perverted humor can be. One guy said that having a dude grope a girl for the sake of a joke is tasteless because there are people in the world who suffered from some kind of sexual abuse. The other guy responded by saying that tolerating action movies is hypocritical in the other guy's case, because many people have obviously been a victim of violence yet there are movies that use violence for entertainment.
What are your thoughts on the matter?
