Nintendo 64 Memories

At work yesterday we were discussing the Nintendo 64 era. Memories flooded back of cartridges that saved with no loading times, memory packs that sloted in the controller and the big rumble packs that made the pad weigh twice as much as they were without. So I though I would list my top ten games, from this amazing console era. 10. Lylat Wars Sure it was a SNES remake, sure it was only about 4 hours long, and sure the multiplayer at the most boring maps ever. But who cares when the one player was so much fun and so replayable. Who will ever forget the first time you played on the independence day rip off level. 9. Turok 2: The Seeds of Evil It only had five levels I think, but god they were big levels. No FPS I had or either played since has ever had such vast levels which took hours for me to finish. Really hard, but in the good way of course. 8. Super Smash. Bros If this game only had the one player it would have been average at best, but the mulitplayer made up for this. Many lost evenings with friends playing on the four player on this game. Easy to pick up, but took real talent to master, great fun!! 7. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Ok so it lacked the classic feel of Ocarina, but it introduced many new interesting gameplay features with the masks. Very coll final boss battle, and who can forget that scary moon!! 6. Mario Kart 64 Non Nintendo critics hated it, but everyone I knew loved it. Great level design and a real blast on mulitplayer with the ballon battles being the real highlight. Reemeber that shortcut on Wario's Stadium level? 5. Banjo Tooie Rare during this era were the masters, and the sequel to Banjo Kazooie simply perfect Rare's platforming formula. More fun then the first with so many more features. I remember playing this and no other games for two weeks or so to finish it. 4. Super Mario 64 Yes its only number 4. Nintendo get the 3D platformer right first time. Although not hard to get to and beat the final Bowser battle, meeting Yoshi was a real achievement. The brilliance of this game is shown by Super Mario 64 DS, which was pretty much the same game but still felt more fresh and fun then the whole xbox, PS2 and gamecube era. 3. Perfect Dark This was a hard one. In everyway this was better than Goldeneye, but I could not bring myself to place it higher (will explain why later). The one player matched any hollywood film, it looked amazing and played brilliantly with a lot of variety and secrets. The multiplayer despite some slowdown, was brilliant. Bots were finally seen and with so many different game styles it was a way to lose hours of your life with friends. 2. Goldeneye Ok Perfect Dark on paper was better in everyway, but it lacked the charm and the gasp you had when you played the game for the first time. Brilliantly following the film in the oneplayer and you play Bond for god sake!!! Multiplayer was excellent, and the first time I had experienced four players on one screen (on a portable a may add!!). 1. The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time Yes I have been overly obvious with my selection, but who cares? Epic quest, amazing gameplay and graphically beautiful. Every moment was a joy to behold, may you be in a dungeon or simply riding Epona around Hyrule. This is not to be missed!!!
