I notice that in just about all of these ATI vs nVidia comparison runs, the games being tested are high-def 1st-person shooters like Half-Life 2, Doom 3, F.E.A.R., etc. At the time when I got my latest video card, ATI Radeon 9800XT 256MB, it was considered "high-end". Now, of course, it can't really compare to any of the latest cards. However, I can still place Half-Life 2, Doom 3, and F.E.A.R. with pretty decent visual settings. While I can't put everything to the "highest" settings, I can still put most things at "high". But there's one game in particular that I've stopped playing, partly due to the whole montly payments notion, but mostly because I have to put all visual settings to "low". I'm talking about EverQuest 2. It's just not much fun with no shadows, no cloth-physics, no lighting-effects, no water-effects, minimal view-distance, and well, just about no anything. One day I'm going to have to get a new video card, and since mine is AGP rather than PCI, I'll have to get a new motherboard and a new power supply, and so on. As I'm looking at this article on GeForce 7900 GTX vs Radeon X1950 XT, I wonder if either card would allow me to finally put my EQ2 settings to "maximum" and still run smoothly.
