Net Troubles

WiFi, DS and Crappy Connections

I'm on the 'borrowed' WiFi connection again. It appears the company right next to us is the proud owner of the connection. However, thanks to all the walls and the distance between the two buildings our connection is highly unstable, especially with moisty weather like we're experiencing now.

Downstairs where the entrance is the signal is weak, but constant nonetheless. Our good friend German recommended us a WiFi Repeater. This is a device which picks up the WiFi signal and amplifies it so that you can reach bigger areas using the same wireless router you used to have. Ideal to leech some more off of these guys in our house, if it weren't for the steep price of a $100+ of such a repeater.

Our own DSL connection we ordered is a load of trouble too. We were assured the preparations were done and we only have to wait for our modem. However, Frank was visiting us yesterday and he knows quite a big deal about cables and telephone lines. When we checked out the incoming phone lines we noticed there was no signal whatsoever on any of them, making it impossible for us to use the internet. The question now is whether this is a case for the phone company which is basically responsible for the well-being of the lines, or if this is something our landlord should take care of as the line is in his house. Either way, we don't have our own net connection right now, while we should have one ready by now. Bummer.

Where to spend money on?

I checked out the gamestore yesterday to check on some prices and figure out what game I'm going to get next week when my monthly payment arrives. Now that we have settled more or less and the financially tight times are nearing their end I can spend money on games again. I was doubting getting either Advance Wars DS or Fire Emblem for the GC but browsing the PS2 shelves I found a beautiful boxed edition of Xenosaga II. I know the game is somewhat crappy and seeing how we never got part 1 in Erope there's not much sense in picking up the 2nd installment, but this box is so beautiful and its contents look so nice that it would look great in my collection. Normally there's no way I'd settle for something which will cost me 60 Euros while I'm sure I'll only moderately enjoy the game at best, but this is very, very tempting, just because it looks so cool. Well, probably I'll go with Fire Emblem. Winter's nearing, which means I have the time and opportunity to kick back on the couch and play RPG's. Great way to kill some cold wintery hours.
