I don't agree whatsoever with your idea about Miis simply costuming already established characters, but I do definitely think that Miis would be a great contribution.Thats not such a bad idea...I mean Mr Game and Watch was completely out there and not really a proper nintendo character (im sure this is disputable but still).
Seeing as some rumours around Animal Crossing suggest that when you customise your Mii in that game, the customisation will carry over to your main Wii interface, this would be a nice addition as you would, yes, have characters with the same moves, but would all look extremely unique. And besides, no-one seems to complain about Captain Falcon and Ganondorf having the practically same set list.
And it's not like all of your Miis will all be included on the 'character select' screen, just maybe an icon and then you choose one of the Miis you have created.
Move lists are easy: left/right+B could use the baseball bat; up+B could use a sort of spinning tennis move; down+B could use the golf club; B on its own could do a tennis serve; A could use boxing gloves. And the inclusion of special moves could even be the Mii riding that crazy bull in Wii Play.
I like the idea, and its not as if the Smash Bros. series is just for Nintendo superstars, is it?
Roy and Marth?
I'd love to have the Miis in the game, if not to just replace the wire frames from the previous two games.
Besides, the more places they're used, the less the idea of them seems gimmicky.

Roy and Marth are Nintendo superstars as Fire Emblem is owned by Nintendo. People claiming the Miis look like N64 characters is also flawed as Kirby hardly looks Nex-Gen does he?
I was thinking there could be a similar option on the character select screen as there is in F-Zero GX where u can load your own character. I would want Miis to all have the same moveset though as customisable controls would most likely unbalance things as has already been said.
Im also well up for the 100 man Miilee thing. Would be cool. Smash is all about Nintendo's catalogue of characters...Old and New. So Miis would work if done properly.
