They thought it would end up last because of its underpowered graphics, and virtually everybody here cares a great deal about fancy, polished photo-realistic graphics. Their miscalculation, though, was assuming that casuals and non-gamers care about the same things they do.thinicer

Well said.  Although I'm a pc gamer, IMO a console is to provide ample entertainment for the masses.  Companies like Nintendo and Sega have done well in this department.  Sony also had a knockout with PS1/2.  IMO Microsoft and (recently) Sony has tried to change the appeal of "plug and play" with their latest consoles.  I wouldn't be surprised if they bring more addons to the table.. addons that your average gamer could care less about, hence destroying the purpose.

If it's a media/life center that they want, they should just make a solid dedicated machine.  Sony should make a blu-ray player with media features, file-sharing with pcs, and possibly mini-games like Calling all Cars or something and perhaps more ppl will go for this.  What they've done is monkeyed up something nearly perfect (ps2).  Same goes for X360.

The Wii is just that... FUN!  Truely plug and play like the good old days of NES.  You need not worry about how it will look on this or that tv.. or if you have proper cables.  I personally get a kick out of watching an old school company wipe the floor with such a "plug and play".  Talk about the ultimate negation.  Stickin' it to the man, are we?

Oh yes, about the photo-realistic graphics.  Here's a clue for consoles.. IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT.  For the 5-25% of graphic whores (that buy consoles) out there, pcs will overtake all consoles by the end of this year and soon pretty much all multiplats will look painfully better on your midrange pc.  There will be games that no way in hell could be done on a console shortly so why even bother?  All this fuss for 1-2 years of braggin' rights that will lead an even longer road of trailing behind pcs (as usual) in this department.  I'm not saying consoles can't produce an extremely nice picture.  I'm just saying they lose track of it's original purpose of plug and play... and for what?  To hit a brick wall?  Unless consoles start having upgradable parts, it is a brick wall.  So why not act like it (Wii).

The above is of course all IMO so thanks for tuning in!

Yah it's heating up alright.  PS3 and X360 may as well shake hands because their both gonna take a back seat to Wii's success for a very long time.

Dang!  You know what.. I really didn't know that.  I honestly didn't know that since xbox and pc are two different platforms then they would behave any different.  I'll quickly let my friends know.

The above pics are hardly great.  There just "good" and not even Xbox good.  I have played several games on Xbox that looked better than the top 2 games (mario, metriod prime 3) but SSBB I'm not sure about.  If all we're talking about is graphics then the Wii doesn't cut it, and I don't think it ever will.  As time goes by, the PS3/X360 will come closer and closer to photorealism (but so far away LOL) and the Wii will still be compared to Xbox/PSP I'm afraid.

Gameplay is a different matter altogether, but I still don't recommend it yet.  Needs more games that Nintendo ever so hyped for it's 'innovation'.  All I see and hear about is mario, zelda, metriod, ssbb, paper crap, kiddy mini games that can potiential harm gaming, and some stupid vote channel.  Where is the maturity section, excellent usage of Wiimote, NEW killerapps that aren't plagued with bugs worse then a fouled-up win98 pc with a 2-bit whore on the side.

But overall, it seems this generation is one of change and the Wii and 360 are the beneficiaries of this new fortune.Kizzle28

I hear this time and time again but since when did the first year of next-gen establish anything? The Wii and X360 are doing very well and that's a fact. Another fact is that the PS3 is selling about as good as X360 did at this point in time last year (even without Europe). By that indication, the Wii is going to smoke the competition.

But what lies ahead is what determines the make-it-or-break-it. Price cuts and major exclusives. You have way over 100 million last gen gamers out there (and I know what the majority preferred) so don't tell me you can sit there and talk about beneficiaries of new fortune with roughly 15 million gamers on tap so far. It doesn't add up. Someone out there is waiting. For what? Only time will tell.

Why do cows try to redirect this topic elsewhere or tell someone to go outside to play tennis?  I have a brain and I'm using it!  There was various websites, advertisements, and whatnot that lead you to believe that VT3 on PS3 was gonna rock last year.  I remember this game as one of PS3's strongholds.  Cows praised this and Sony claimed the 1080p on it and held it like an exclusive or something.

But now its coming out with no online which stinks because X360 could pull it off....and have 1080p!  I thought 1080p was a Sony-only thing as well.  Good thing I don't like living in a dreamworld because thats why I dont own a PS3 yet (if ever).

My opinion as a pc gamer is that the PS3 is about on par with a mid end pc.  Regardless, The PS3 should pack enough punch to reproduce most of today's pc hits with 720p resolution and 30fps.  This is of course pretty low for pc standards nowaday, but it's doable nontheless.

A single 8800gtx paired with a dual core processor and at least 1 gig ram would destroy the PS3 in a multiplatform game, especially if optimized.  I imagine by the end of this year the PS3 will only be able to keep up with a mid range pc, which will cost roughly the same amount as a PS3 after tax and warranty.  So it's take your pick.

In my case, I keep up-to-date with my hardware in my pc (i have a good job) so if I decide to purchase a PS3 (which I'm not) it would ONLY be because of exclusive games that I can't play.  Ya see the thing is....is that I was kinda hoping the PS3 would have some knockout musthave games by now but it really doesn't.  The longer it takes PS3 to get the ball rolling, the further my interest wanders away from it.  By the time games like Crysis and Hellgate come out I'm sure I'll be a very happy (and busy) camper with not much time outside of work, gaming, and social life.  It's too bad really.
