I can only smack myself upside the head for getting caught up in the hype of this one. Now, I have only only played a little over an hour of it, but my knee-jerk reaction isn't what I was hoping.
+ Great voice acting
+ Technically the graphics are great
- horrible combat system.
I don't want to go in and out of menus while fighting in real time. The cover system is very annoying. Have to go into menu to change between the one biotic power you can hotkey. Controlling your team is useless.
- artistically poor graphics
It doesn't matter how many pixels you've got when all the scenery consists of white walls and sand dunes. They could have a photorealistic white wall in a game, but it's no more fun looking at it then a real white wall.
- dissapointing rpg elements
I've been hearing such great things about the rpg elements in mass effect. So it was very dissapointing when you come to the realization that all the secondary characters are already pre determined and you're stuck having to upgrade them in the same path. And because of this you have to choose your teammates based on their pre-determined skillsets and NOT who you think is cooler. Also you can choose the cla$$ of your commander shepard, but that doesn't help much. Because no matter what you end up with you're going to feel you're missing out. It's not like the RPG of the old Fallouts where you can truly choose the skills of your guy. The RPG elements in this game is laughable compared to Fallout.
- idiotic story
arguably the most important thing in an rpg is the story. People claim the story in ME to be such an awesome story. But all I see is a piece of $hit story with some evil alien trying to destroy the world and you have to stop him, with the help of your friends. BOOOOOOOOOOOO, I say to that.
- horrible atmosphere
the most important thing for me in a game is hands down, the atmosphere. ME fails here as well. But I will give it this, the only reason the atmosphere is a donkey fart in my opinion is because I hate sci-fi and aliens. So there.
