As you may know, I'm a big football (soccer) fan. You may also know I'm Polish and I live in Poland, in the city of Poznan. Something happened yesterday that made me very proud and happy. My local football team LECH POZNAN, the Polish champion, earns a 3-3 draw playing away to the three-time UEFA Cup winners, JUVENTUS TURIN in the first match of the EUROPA LEAGUE's group stage at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.
Latvian player Artjoms Rudnevs, who joined Lech Poznan this season, had the first two goals of the match. He opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after the Brazil midfielder Felipe Melo brought down Slawomir Peszko, and doubled the lead in the 30th minute when left unmarked in the area. After opening half hour Lech Poznan led 0-2!
But Juventus hit back with a goal either side of halftime by defender Giorgio Chiellini (45', 50'). Alessandro Del Piero put Juventus ahead in the 68th with a long shot from outside the area. Rudnevs rescued a point for Lech just before the final whistle when he unleashed a rocket from 30 yards that skimmed off the underside of the crossbar and into the net to complete his hat trick. It was the second minute of added time in the second half!
The match was very dramatic - we could have won but we could have lost too, so I think a draw is fair. Considering it was Juventus we played against I'm very happy and satisfied with the result.:)
