2006 is all but coming to an end. After a year of massive next generation consoles, the last but not least of them finally steps out. Yeah, the PS3. I personally being a PlayStation collector can’t wait to get my hands on the (after having enough money), but I still have doubts about buying it. The 360 has fairly interesting graphical jaw-dropping games but the Wii has more creative art-like games.
I’ve noticed quite a trend nowadays, with publishers pushing out games that puts good use of the processor on our consoles. I always like to see the possibilities with every game being churned out. But at the end of the day (sometimes), the game slowly losses its charm as more and more games with the same graphic capabilities are made.
But the Japanese took the step into the next generation consoles era the other way round. Wooing buyers with never seen before console capabilities. When the Wii was launched, I said to myself, that’s gonna be a flop. The PS3 and 360 will definitely out do you. A few months later, now, probably, I’m gonna swallow my words and let the games do the talking.
Amazed by the ingenuity and imagination of the games being churned out for the Wii, I was torn between loyalty (grown up with a PS) and current trend. If I had to make a choice and can only buy one next gen console, I might say as things are looking out, I will take Nintendo’s new toy.
Another point I would love to add is that games developed by Americans and Japanese giants do have a lot of difference. While the people here mostly use the super processors to design lifelike games, their counterpart in the Far East design them as to allow gamers to immerse in the creative and visually stunning gameplay. Take for example, Okami. I have never seen any American game (correct me if I’m wrong) that has such amazing artwork. We often see games like Halo 3, Gears of War and so on, but none of them has that extra oomph in graphics. They are the same generic lifelike graphic.
Honestly, I don’t mind playing either of those games. No, no, not at all. I do have interest in all games whether American or Japanese. But I just like to point out these tiny, minuscule aspects that we notice quite often.
Merry Christmas to everyone and a happy New Year!!
