Finally got a Wii

I was strolling through Wal-Mart the other day, and I happened to stop by the electronics department (which I almost always do). I walked straight to the Wii section, and what did I see on the bottom shelf? Three Wii's still in stock. I casually walked over to the person on duty in the department and asked him to get one out of the case for me. As we were walking back to the register, I asked the associate when the consoles came in. He told me that they had received six that morning. I realized at that time that I'd lucked out, because I'm not a morning person (but chose to be that day). Had I waited until that afternoon, I probably wouldn't have been able to purchase one.

I tried out Wii Sports, and it's pretty fun I guess. I wouldn't write home about it however. My main focus now is on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. So far, the game seems promising. I'm a little disappointed with the aiming scheme. The controls at times become frustrating due to a clunky, less than reliable response time, and at various times the sensitivity is either too much or not enough. I know that I can adjust those factors through the Wii interface which helps in certain circumstances, but the game at times requires quicker movement and then slower; I don't want to switch in and out of game just to make that compensation. Essentially, I feel as though not enough development time was given to the way Zelda responds to the Wii remote, but perhaps, I just require a little more time to get used to it. The game feels like a potential successor to Ocarina of Time otherwise. I'll make that final judgement once I've played through the game.

This fall, I'm sure that I'll be more excited about the Wii, simply because Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, and Mario Galaxy will be released. I also want to rent Trauma Center and Wario Ware, and hey, if I like them (which I very may well), then I'll pick those up too.

Anyway, I'm content enough for now. Hell, I've been waiting on the Wii since release. I even waited in line for the thing at release. Let's hope the wait was worth it.

Virginia Tech Shootings

My prayers go out to those affected predominantly...as well as those of us less so. In time the majority of the initial pain will pass. At this time let us not obsess with some of the facts of the investigation but rather focus on the impact of the situation. Consequently I'm compelled to be angry which is justified, but the pragmatic acting of that fury period will poignantly exist in another occasion. Currently we should abstain from political arguments and mostly disregard those disagreements engaged in such. Now is the time for mourning, not bickering.

GeoW...um 'bout time.

My local Goodwill store got a brand new LCD HD TV, and I lucked out to get it still in the box for 500 dollars (nearly half off the retail). OF COURSE I bought it and happily brought it home. My next step? I purchased an Xbox 360 and Gears of War. In short I can say GeoW really is as spectacular as people have heard, but will it hold up overtime; will the game keep holding my interest? Those details are yet to be divulged. Anyway, I'm psyched with my new techno gadgets and intend to go back to standard definition if and only if Hell actually does indeed freeze over. Oh, and yeah, I'm still waiting on a Wii. :?

I'm still waiting on a Wii.

I finally got my copy of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The main problem is that I still don't have a Wii on which to play my new, happily acquired game.

I've been checking my local stores every few days just to see if a Wii has come in; my mom has been checking for me as well, but alas, no luck.

When my neighborhood Wal-Mart got it's second shipment of systems I got up at about 5:00 in the morning to go get in line to see if there would be enough Wiis to go around for the early birds. I happened to be tenth in line and was fairly excited, but the shipment that came in produced only three systems. Too bad for me, but I felt horrible for the lady who was fourth in line and had been there for hours.

Anyway, I'm on Wal-Mart's waiting list for the Wiis as they come in. Hopefully I'll have one before too much longer.

My friend, Mandy, met with Def Jam Records' VP of Promotion.

Mandy is an up-and-coming singer who has recorded some demos, and the VP with whom she met has worked with the likes of Mariah Carey as well as others. In the next month I plan to visit her since she has been hounding me constantly to go out for some VIP treatment at some of the clubs where her music now plays. All of this VIP treatment are perks provided by Def Jam (Jay-Z's company), and I figure if the offer stands I should jump on it.

James Kim's body has been found.

Unfortunately my wish from my previous entry to title this entry "James Kim is found alive!" will not be fulfilled. A helicopter operator spotted a body in the wilderness, and the body is now confirmed to be James Kim.

R.I.P.

James Kim update

James Kim's tracks have been found and the searchers are still trailing him. As of an earlier report, his family is going to be ok other than that Kati Kim, James' wife, may have to have an amputation of a toe due to frostbite. The tracks were about 5 miles long from the family car and lead down into a canyon where searchers are focusing their efforts at the moment. At least some good has come from these events in that it appears the family will be fine. I hope that my next blog post about this subject will involve the words "James Kim is found alive!"

UPDATE: Current reports suggest that in fact Kati is completely fine along with the children. Perhaps the earlier report of Kati's toe amputation was inaccurate.

UPDATE: Another report just came out on FoxNews: The searchers have found James Kim's pants. The question at this moment is "Why did he shed his pants?".

UPDATE: Authorities now are reporting that James Kim may be leaving clues for his searchers: pieces of a map, pieces of clothing. The other posibility is that James is shedding his clothes because he may be suffering symptoms of hypothermia which confuse the mind into believing the body is actually hot.

Wish me luck.

Since I've moved back home from Cincinnati, I haven't had a job in a video game store. I would much prefer to work at GameCrazy, but the nearest one to where I live is over 70 miles away. Since driving that far is out of the question, I decided to stop in at my local EB to see if they were needing any help.

Come to find out, three employees are quitting this month, and I may get to take advantage of one of those openings. Anyway, I gave my resume and filled out an application. With my credentials, I should be first pick. Now it's just a waiting game.

Repent all ye sinners!

Today I was walking to class, and in the central area of campus a group of protestors were picketing against what they believed to be sins. Some of the signs with which this group displayed their messages were Fear God, Repent, and other such ideas.
One of the more disturbing signs displayed an aborted fetus which to me appeared to be at least 7 months along (it pretty much looked like a little, dead baby with its face mutilated). Because of this particular sign, a lady from the crowd to which the protestors spoke, stepped forward to express her distaste for the exhibition of such a sign. She told the person holding the sign that he had no respect for life. To which he replied that he did have respect for life.
Anyway, I doubt the religious protestors really solved anything by coming to a university where to my best perception the crowd mocked more than listened. Shocking messages may get someone's attention at first, but if the messages have no reasonable discourse on which to lean, the shock will be for naught.
Yelling converts nothing...other than the volumn of one's voice.
