That's how it got popular. At the time of the first MK those blue screen graphics were simply jaw dropping, but the real claim to fame was the over the top blood and gore. I was part of that young dumb demographic that helped propel MK unwarranted heights.

Its much like the God of War series. There is nothing noteworthy about the gameplay, but the graphics are great and the brutal nature of the game just sucks people in.

I can't say that I'm a die hard GoW fan either but you can't really compare the two. GoW is continued brutality from start to finish with a thrown together story. MK is basically the same except you have to battle for sixty seconds just so you can use the same fatalities over and over. I've never really been one to simply spend sixty dollars just to watch a five second animation of someone getting there body ripped limb from limb.

Same attraction, different times. Sure GoW has more substance, but do you think it would be as popular as it is today without the great visuals and over the top violence? Probably not.

I agree with you on that.

I believe that this particular fella deserved what he got, it was an extreme case of piracy and he probably just got wrapped up in the life style of it. It's terrible that he lost everything but that's just how it is. However, I don't agree with the way the FBI has suddenly thought that they have to make an "example" out of people. An older gentleman I know from work had to serve jail time and pay off several thousands dollars in fines because his 14 year old son downloaded music illegally from his dads computer.

Street Fighter is better with controls and balanced combat, in my opinion. I've never really understood why MK is as popular as it is. I have a younger sibling that is buying the game strictly because of violent fatalities that have been reused since the beginning of the series. Spine rip, acid spit, etc, etc. If I really feel the urge to watch them then I'll just save my money and look them up on youtube or something.

Shadow of the Colossus. And I don't get all the sequels being mentioned in this thread. Doesn't that go against the very point of the thread? I would think it should be a lone/one time game that had no sequel. You guys are talking about a sequel to a sequel.incuensuocha

Wasn't Ico the sequel to Shadow of the Colossus? I believe that Ueda quoted in an interview that Shadow of the Colossus was a prequel to Ico. I may be wrong though.

I wouldn't mind another Persona game but I don't think those games can be considered "sequels" to one another. Either that or another Professor Layton game to keep me busy.

In my opinion, I can say that there are several other developers that I consider better then Nintendo. It's not because I dislike them but I simply don't fall within that age range that Nintendo generally aims to please. I will say that Nintendo has always had the best handhelds and with the announcement of the 3ds, that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon.

Ps3 for me. I use to be a huge 360 fan until my system red ringed. I already owned a ps3 by that time and most of the games that are 360 exclusive are games that I couldn't really careless about anyway. Not to mention the free online and the lighter controllers. ((Never could get use to that bulky monstrousity that microsoft called a controller.)) Not to mention the fact that my ps3 is twice as old as my 360 and I've had no troubles out of it as of yet.
