When I look back at 2009, there are some games that really stand out to me. I would like to quickly mention them here:
Uncharted 2, at first, I wasn't expecting much from it. As I got into it, it offered a perfect blend of humor in it's story, and intense cooperative gameplay. This game is an adrenaline rush and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a very fun game.
While we are on cooperative games, I'd like to mention the new Super Mario Bros. This game offers an atmosphere that everyone in the family can enjoy. It is a great remake with some of the better boss fights I've seen in games lately. It's definitely worth a play.
Cooperative gameplay this past year sees it's prime in Left 4 Dead 2. This game builds on its predecessor, making it an even more fun experience for you and your friends. Shooter fans should definitely add this game to their library. (see review for more details)
Ahh what more can I say about Borderlands that I haven't already praised in my review. One of my favorite games this year. Borderlands masterfully combines RPG and FPS elements into an overall addicting and fun game. I'd recommend this game to all fans of both genres.
Of all the games this year, the one that had stood out the most is definitely Demon's Souls. Words cannot express how exceptional this game is, but i'll give it a shot anyway. Demon's Souls masters grahpic design, voice acting, and perfect online play for a gaming mechanics system like no other. This RPG's innovation in the way it handles it's online play sends a chill down my back. This game isdefinitely Game of the Year in my books.
Not many people like Halo Wars, which is understandable. PC RTS fans denounce this game as part of the genre because they feel it is too simple. The fact that it is simple is the reason why I like it.It's a different kind of RTS, as I had stated in my review. It is a solid, fun game that offers a new take on the genre, one that switches the focus off of economy management and puts it on intense combat. A game I would reccomend to people just starting to dab into the RTS genre.
Red Faction: Guerilla, although repetitive, did offer something unique that I absolutely loved: you can destroy EVERYTHING! This game definately appeals to those with a hunger for destruction. Also, the multiplayer was pretty fun fo rthis game. It had quite a bit of fun modes and interesting items to use.
Now for me, Modern Warfare 2 didn't do much, however, there was one thing that I did enjoy. Customizing your weapons and gear is a great way to spice up the game but there is an extent to where this becomes overpowered. This game also had one of the best Single Player stories I've seen in a recent shooter. It was very intense and fun to play through.
In 2010, one of my most anticipated games has to be Halo: Reach. It plays through the events before Halo: Combat Evolved. Specifically, it follows the path of the Spartan team that fought on Reach, as seen in the novel Halo: The Fall of Reach. this is one game I can't wait to get my hands on.
A game that has been growing on me to the point where I am sure I will add it to my collection at some point is Mass Effect 2.Thank you everyone who has offered their opinions, especially Heidious heid.
It may not exactly be a 2010 release, but it is currently the game I am most anticipating. Guild Wars had such an impact on me that I have been drooling over myself in anticipation of this game.Hopefully it comes out soon...
Lastly, I'd like to extend my gratitide to F_E_I_L_D_Y for his opinion about Avatar. I will do my very best to see it ASAP. I would like to hear everyone else's opinions on games that stood out to them this past yeat so please, comment away!
