The universe and story they created look great. I do not care for their smartphone app or casual bullshit they obviously have going on. I also find this statement extremely arrogant and insulting:
"We did a bunch of ambitious things on Halo deliberately to reach out to people," Jason Jones told us. "We limited players to two weapons, we gave them recharging health, we automatically saved and restored the game -- almost heretical things to first-person shooters at the time. We made the game run without a mouse and keyboard. And now nobody plays shooters the way they used to play them before Halo 'cause nobody wants to."
It's not like we have a choice: every goddamn shooter uses these mechanics now and no it's not better.
@MooncalfReviews I disagree the dialogue and characters were great. There were other things that were wrong with DA2: area reuse, quirky combat changes and a prefixed character story.
@slainta If you want to be exact the IBM PC was released before the Commodore 64. But i use PC in the common meaning today as just a computer, not specifically the classical PC. I'm not saying the commodore or amiga are not important. I'm saying the pc should not be neglected. What Halo has to do here? It's in the video game history above. I was questioning that as well, reread my post. Final Fantasy of course has its merits as the most popular mainstream JRPG of course. Whether it's the greatest RPG... that's a whole different argument (on a funny side note, the stories of final fantasy games remind of a tv series called the bold and the beautiful).
@td_tempest Sure but the current generation and feel of the consoles (PS3 and Xbox360, Wii to a much lesser extent) and their games comes from the PC. Including Halo while not including the first person shooters on which it was based on the PC is a shame. Many great titles on the consoles today originated from the PC. The RTS genre pretty much originated from the PC. RPG's were born and became big on the PC. You can not neglect that.
No thanks for "No Russian"? That was a great level that really makes you think about terrorism and morality. Also storywise, the ending of the level was well thought out and surprising.
