Never played these games before, looks kinda fun to be honest. :)

Do you fight with your own army in the game or do you fight alone?

deleterguy

You fight alongside an army against an army, but you only control one character in a battle. In story mode, this character is chosen for you (in DW7) but in chronicle mode you can pick one of 63 different characters. You cannot change your charcter mid-battle and you don't direct troops. Generally you just masacure their troops and officers and rack up hundreds (even thousands) of kills. Normal enemies generally just stand there and let you kill them (though some try to fight back. All the worse for them) but officers can be quite a challenge, especially on the higher difficulties. I can't give all the details as I have yet to get DW7, but what I've said applies to most past DW games.

I think it's fun but if you've read any of the earlier pages, you will notice that opinions on this differ. If you're not sure rent this game or see if there's a demo of a previous one available. I think there is a DW gundam one on XBL, but they're very different games. For one thing, that one has robots. I didn't like that one but I think the gameplay might be similar.

Got to use the Falcon and Tiger a bit.

I actually like the Falcon. He seem to be a bit more active than the wolf or tiger. Though it's weak.

The tiger is just a more powerful wolf. Still it's nice to have some extra help. I think it might be a bit more aggressive compared to the wolf.

It seems like the guardian animals are just there for fun, rather than actually helping you. I kind of expected this but it would have been nice if they were useful and did have deffinate plusses and minuses. But hey, this games all about random fun really. Did I read correctly that you can have both a mount and a fighting animal. If so, I can see a bear-panda combination in my future...:D

Well I got my first uniques Guardian animal. A bear. :3

The bear work similar to a horse. You can mount it and attack people. While it's cool riding a bear, I prefer to take a horse. It's faster to kill people with your weapon and you can jump while on the bear.

The fact that you can ride a bear is sweet. I can't wait to put Xu Zhu on one and ride against Lu Bu. WHOS LAUGHING NOW?!!!

Three more pages since I was on this thread a couple hours ago! Right! {knucles cracking} First, thanks for the info on the bases - it was something I hadn't heard anything about til now. Second, I was not forcing people to buy the game, I was simply saying that one shouldn't fire so much hate at a game before they've played it. Also a game is only as repetitive as you see it. Some people would find a final fantasy repetitive because of how linear they are compared to other RPGs, whilst others would say military shooters are repetitive as they are a rather simple point-shoot-kill affair. I'm not saying they are repetitive, I'm just stateing that because some people thinks it's repetitive doesn't mean it is. ...err...what else was there......ah. Third, story is extremely important for any non-arcade game - a good story is what seperates the men from the boys (or some more game related phrase). From what I've heard, dynasty warriors 7 has this in plenty, though I doubt it is equal a final fantasy or bioshock story. Fourth, please don't do a FPS hype thread; they get enough hype already. But I'll look out for your next hype thread whatever it'll be - this one was/is pretty good. Finally (and well done for making it this far if you're still reading), I asked you about the guardian animals earlier - about how they behave and how useul they are - and you said you had not had much experience with them yet. Just wondered if you can now comment: they're one of the most interesting aspects of the game I've heard and I want to know if they live up to my expectations. Thanks

Although I expected that review from IGN, it doesn't mean I have to like it. It seems like he just uses the oppertunity to b***h about the series. It's sad that the people whos job it is to review games can't. I've never read a review that was so uninformative and just plain lazy. He didn't even try to examine whether the new changes are beneficial or not, or on how effective they are - the kind of stuff I expect from a review however good the game is. I did like the Dian Wei gameplay footage though. His musou was epic :) Which brings me onto another qustion: in the video he entered an enemy base.. There was no counter at the top of the screen like in dynasty warriors 6. So how does taking bases work in this game?

[QUOTE="NickyWithATicky"][QUOTE="GreySeal9"]

How in the world can somebody play one of these repetitive button mashers for more a few minutes?

GreySeal9

Why does the fact it's a button masher make it dull? There's more to a game than it's controls.

I don't know somebody could NOT think button mashing is dull.

Button mashers are inherently dull as you are pretty much doing the same thingover and over and over ad naseum. There's no nuance, no real challenge, no surprises.

I mean, I sort of agree with your second sentence in that button mashing may not be a dealbreaker if it's just relatively small part of the game and there's much more to the game, but this is not true as far as Dynasty Warriors is concerned. The game is composed almost entirely of fighting. Atleast God of War (which I don't like either) has a little bit of variation to it.

Fair enough if you don't get much from the game. I personnaly like the sandbox element of the game - how you can pick any character and choose what routes you want to take on any given map (and now tons of weapons to use aswell). There is a tactical elment to it and though it might not match that of other games, it's still really fun to plan attacks and then react to ambushes, much like in your standard FPS. This conbined with awesome looking combos, intence battles with Lu Bu and the many electric guitars in the background makes the repetitive controls unoticed by me, which is why I hate it when people call it a button masher, as though it suffers from this. The fact that a games controls can make it dull just seems silly - if you're concentrating on your hands then clearly everything else isn't holding your attention, right? It seems you don't dislike the controls, you dislike the game in general. So then, why are you on a dynasty warriors hype forum when you don't like dynasty warriors and don't even know why you don't like it? Maybe you should do some research. I suggest buying dynasty warriors 7 :)

If reviews think it's 8, i'll probably give it 9.5. Sucks that I have to wait another week. What are the guardian animals like - do all the work for you or just swipe where a guy used to be?
