Btw, I didn't so much as mean that I wanted a different sound. Just expected something better than the short and bland "schwing" as it reminds me of the old Gameboy and Sega Saturn days...

lol?Masoa

Yes I know, lol, but I hate manuals, more the take-out-the-thing-and-make-it-happen kinda person. Besides, the quick referance bears too little detail to answer any and all my questions thus my post. I'm also lazy to tediously call Sony AU for assistance because I hate to call technical assistance of any company in this age, especially the broadband bastard companies who've ported all the calls to their blo*dy HQ IN INDIA! Or worse still, I call my ISP technical support line and get something like this which Hughesy mentioned on Rove Live's Hughesy Loses It, Episode 7:

The machine asks me "In a few words, tell me you're problem?"

Hughesy: "I don't know me problem, that's why I'm ringing you!!!"

Machine: "Sorry, I didn't quite catch that."

Hughesy: "What we playing cricket now are we?!?"

Machine: "Sorry".

Hughesy: "No you're not sorry, you're a recorded voice, you don't have a conscience!!!"

Machine: "I'll put you through to customer service. It'll be a 10min wait"

An hour later...

Hughesy: "I can tell she didn't have a conscience, she lied to me!!"

Eventually some guy picks up...

Guy:"What's you're problem?"

Hughesy: "What's my problem? My problem is I've been on hold for four days!!!"

Guy: "Okay, I'll transfer you to someone else"

Hughesy: "Then I hear beep beep beep and think, geeI think that's some interesting transfer music till I realised he hung up on me!! I called them back and said record this for training purposes because you're all wank*rs!!!"

I just desperately need help so I can enjoy my PS3 like everyone else can to the full (minus the gaming choice in some sense :P). Besides, why not seek answers where I know I can find them? I rather wait a day for replies on here than wait an hour on hold on a technical support line.

I just won a PS3 from a competition by 3 Mobile, 1 out of 12 PS3's handed out since May, with complimentary second SixAxis remote and a copy of Resistance: Fall of Man (RFOM). Got the HDMI and firmware done (through USB stick) and ofcourse, the obvious would be using the DVD and game discs and remote etc. but other than that, I really need a PS3 101 because I never thought I would win, and I had been saving for a PS3 for X-mas anyway and didn't pay any attention to how to use it in the forums/news. Anyhow, these are my questions:

a) How the fugliness do I change the XMB's background colour? It's purple! It has changed to Vista-green once after I took out a DVD, and another time, same thing but it was light blue. Can't I do it manually? Also, can I use images for backgrounds?

b) How do I convert pics, music and vids from PC to PS3? I know the files need to be converted to different formats, same as my iPod video, but what software do I use if any at all, particularly for music files and pictures?

c) I really need a PS3 broadband 101 :P I've got a T1 connection with a D-Link DSL-302G modem from Optus. Know alot about computers but not too much about networking, and embarrasingly so, about the PS3, thus this might be more pressing than the others from a technical point of view. Do I connect just any modem or what? Because there was something about the wire only being a 10xt, 100xt or 1000xt base and having some networking knowledge, not all wires go with all modems that I know, with like CAT-5e and CAT-6 etc. Would also appreciate a Wireless PS3 101 :)

d) Since I only own RFOM, for financial and gameplay reasons, I just wanted to know, when the PS3 logo flashes for other games, does it always play that short "schwing" sound? If the answer's yes, then that's so full of sh*t lol Not important, but just let down :P The first MGS4 trailer had a PS3 logo flash by with a much cooler sound effect that sounded like a robotic "schworrrrrrhhhhmmmmmm" :P

e) I've heard thatone can stream PC to PS3. Is it really possible? How so? I also have a wireless networked hard drive for the home wireless for my family. Can I stream data from there to my PS3 rather than unecessarily blo*dy turning on my PC to do PC stuff on my PS3? (almost laughable sometimes I know, but oh well...we all wanted it back when the PS2 could do nil and the Xbox could do side stuff like music and all didn't we? :P)

I'll owe you guys big time for helping me. Least my PS3 won't be collecting dust for just a while more till Heavenly Sword comes out.

The thing is this. The last two Ace Combats did poorly on the shelves. And if Im not mistaken Zero didnt even reached the million mark. A multi platform game would help it cover the losses it may generate. PS3 is getting an improved version, with some extras the addition of Six Axis and the only drawback is that it is being released later.

What makes me laugh is that MS thinks that beside the marketing effect this does on the PS3 (bad news since its another lost franchise exclusiveness) is that now everyone speaks about AC. When in the past nobody did. I mean, I have rarely seen a post on the PS2 about either AC4,5 or Zero.

kenshinhimura16

Couldn't agree with you more. What makes me laugh more is that (I don't know but check the trailer out and Gamespot's preview article) the graphics look so AC5 and AC0 like yet all of the 360 owners are gunning for the game like it's the Kentucky Derby. Fair enough they've never had an AC experience, but it's just laughable when they're always saying the 360's better than the PS3. Also, just want to add, true they'll make more money going multi-platform as is the trend, but Zero probably didn't make the million mark because the story kind of sucked. And I hope to God that Namco doesn't port it.

To the thread poster:

Namco's never ported games before. Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception is proof. Go figure. Atleast, that's what I'm holding onto to prevent myself from screaming out like you are because it was also my initial reaction when I saw the news a few weeks back that Ac6 was coming out on the 360. Sixaxis refinement could also be an excuse though, as previous posters have mentioned, and whether they're porting or not, LOOK AT THE FUGLY Resident Evil 4 (for PS2) graphics they've got for video clips! Laugh yourself silly that our PS2's did nearly a Final Fantasy job at the video clips lest you forget what the PS3 and HDMI can do. Seriously, I'm a AC1-5 vet, and I'm not sweating. Though I will add, the day AC is ported from 360 to PS3 is the day I will indeed feel back-stabbed.

do you believe anybody with a 360 is gonna buy ace combat.

let alone anybody with a 360 probably doesn't know whawt ace combat is.

junk56

Yeah but if you check out Gamespot coverage they're all blo*dy excited, pissing their pants on PS2 graphics with Resident Evil 4 (on PS2) graphics for video clips. I LAUGH BACK at 360 owners who are laughing at us who think they're stolen Ace Combat from us.

I've got nearly the exact same parts you want for you're computer but with you're dad's 7600GT on it with watercooling for the Core 2 Duo but not the 7600GT (reason why is the water cooling was a precaution for Dx10 cards when I built the PC 4 months ago but ATi was more than dissapointing despite the wait and I have a 7600GT because it is cheap and kick as* for a DX9 card for the price. Best value for money until you have a DX10 card). Anyway, my pc runs all games smoothly. Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, World in Conlict Closed Beta, BF2, BF2142, FEAR, Medieval 2 and Total War Rome, Dawn of War series, JTF all installed with medium or medium-HIGH settings and high physics, lots of units with high lighting, shading and pixels is the order of the day with anti-aliasing at 4x or 8x atleast and even so, I bump up the graphics from the medium high to 1280x1024 and high or maximum this and that on a Samsung SynMaster 931c 19" World Cyber Games 2006 Special Edition monitor ;) Depends what I increase obviously, don't want to burn the card and no sweat, the graphics card stays between the normal average of 50'C-60'C with only minor fps sacrifise compared to bigger cards and for some reason the fps loss doesn't seem to make a difference in visuals (accurately tested for the demanding COH as it tells you the EXACT fps you get with different settings tested). You're dead dude :P Crytek has said again and again and again that they're made very sure that Crysis runs smoothly for DX9. It'll easily compensate to medium graphics and you're dad can bump some things up I believe. Though ofcourse there will be downgrades for such a great game, they won't be so bad as to make you're dad lose. You're dad's a smart man. As the guy above mentioned for Life Lesson #2, it's very true. Old age and treachery will plenty of times defeat youth and vigour :P Reminds me of the bets I trick my younger sister into which is so obviously one-sided to old age, her youth blinds her to it. Just life my friend. Sorry to be frank, but you might as well kiss those sweet dreams of a free gaming computer goodbye :( Just one last thing, it's a very good build though. Smart choices for parts, just not so smart for the betting :P lol
