I mainly play single player. If I play multi-player it's only with one or two close friends. I enjoy this game quite a bit and still play it a few times a month. I have not played farcry so I can't compare those two.
As a longtime Heroes of Might and Magic player, I completely understand. I am extremely grateful that heroes 5 didn't require online. And if heres 6 does, they will most likely kill the franchise, and online multiplayer was never popular with that game, rather hotseat was. Any game that requires online connectivity simply as a means to control is a game that will never be on my game shelf. And yes, I do purchase my games. Edit: I becae curious and concerned about heroes 6 so I found this from one of their moderators; Answer #1 > It will generally be like the previous editions of Heroes : You will be able to play alone (singleplayer offline) or with other human players (multiplayer : hotseat or online). Answer #2 > NO. An Internet connection will not be required : As previously mentioned, you shall be able to play offline (singleplayer or hotseat mode).
While not technically an RTS, you might consider Children of the Nile as a base building game. Also, Settlers 7 is all about base building. I realize settlers 7 doesn't have the same feel... you will have to wait to get what you are wanting, I think. I personally liked Sins of a Solar Empire quite a bunch.
