well i do understand the xbox thing, and i understand why you want it, xbox has amazing online and i hope that nintendo can live up to it but i dont think it will happen anytime soon.

and i dont want them to abandon motion controls but its just plain stupid in somecases in games such as okami or LOZ:TP the motion to attack worked, but it turned a couple of people away from it, i know it just wasnt as fun to me. luckily i was able to get the GC version of TP, unfortunately ill have to deal with it for okami, but im only doing that becuase of how well others say the game is.

and you're right. if they can find a way to make the control feel right, natural, and fun then by all means do it, but dont force it into a perfectly good game

agreed... Nintendo makes some incredible games, but it's time they start being the example with their motion controls. Enough of this fumbling in the darkness.

You certainly are excited to have created yourself a new gamespot account. 3 useless new topics in less than 5 minutes.

And the balance board is a neat idea, but I still can't afford it. Maybe if more exciting things come out for it I'll buy into it.

Arc2012

Well, I certainly am sorry for being new. Honestly though... i've been watching the Wii board for about two days, and I must say that this is a pretty boring board with few new threads being made. I wanted to see what would happen if I started some new threads. I can see now that they are met with criticism. I'll make sure to think real carefully before clicking that "new topic" button just to please you.

And I sure do hope that Nintendo takes advantage of the balance board.

games shouldnt have the motion sensor imo unless it just "feels right", otherwise its not adding anything and runs the risks of ruining the experience

and it doesnt sound like you want them to broaden their horizons, it sounds like you want them to be xbox, cept with nintendo games, and thats just not gonna happen.

riseneclipse

I want them to not be cumbersome to their customers. If you don't have a 360 and have not experienced Xbox Live, then you don't know what i'm talking about.

But I don't want a new Xbox... because Microsoft takes few risks. I want Nintendo to start proving to us that the motion control works. Why make it only to abandon it? I don't mean that they should force it into games like Zelda and Mario... I mean they need to make new IP's designed for their new controller.

You call those risks?

bob_newman

They were risky enough to kill the GC.

they were not risky enough... that is why the Gamecube failed. No new ideas.

[QUOTE="NintendoDream"]

I'm talking new IP's, no friend codes, new ways to play.

bob_newman

We're only a year and a half into the Wii's lifespan. We don't know what new IPs are coming out, we don't know what they plan to do with the "new ways to play", but we do know that they haven't thrown in the towel yet. Nintendo still has over 3 years to come up with some new stuff. It'll happen, don't worry.

I know they will... I have a ton of faith that they will succeed at E3! :D

[QUOTE="bob_newman"]Risks killed the Gamecube. I have a feeling that Nintendo wants to play it super safe this gen...at least until they have a bigger install-base.chris3116

what are you talking about? What risks did they take? No Online, no crazy new controller, no nothing. Nothing was new with the Gamecube... nothing was different. I think it was lack of risk on Nintendo's part that killed the GameCube.

I say start going crazy Nintendo!

You think that Nintendo didn't take a risk by just releasing the console in 2006 with the PS3 around the same days when many people thought it would flop. And still Wii is selling while the PS3 begins to sell.

that was a huge risk, no doubt.

But tell me, what game of Nintendo's (from Japan) fully uses the Wii mote to full success? And no mini-game collections.

I was hoping you'd get what I meant, and didn't question it because I'm lazy. Ok, here we go:

Mario Sunshine: People hated FLUDD.

Wind Waker: The cel-shaded graphics turned a lot of Zelda fans away.

Double Dash: Even though the 2 rider per cart thing was a nice addition, again, it turned away a lot of Mario Kart Purists.

They tried to appeal to the "hardcore" crowd that the PS2 and Xbox had. They made a technically superior system, and tried to make "Mature" games like Eternal Darkness and Geist, but that's not really what Nintendo fans wanted at the time. Sure, these games did well in terms of review scores, but the sales were pretty sub-par for Nintendo standards.

I mean, Galaxy has already (in just a few months) surpassed the total lifetime sales of Sunshine. Same story for Twilight Princess and Wind Waker.

I actually liked the risks Nintendo took last gen, but I know a lot of people didn't, and the sales prove it.

You call those risks? I'm talking about NEW ideas, not something as trivial as 2 riders in a single kart. I'm talking new IP's, no friend codes, new ways to play. Nintendo is great with quality, I just think they need to expand their horizons.

Plenty of games take advantage of the Wiimote. Games like Zack and Wiki exploit it fully. And even though most titles really only exploit the pointer mainly, that's still taking advantage of the controller! (you won't find this type of control standard on any other console!) Eh, Nintendo's whole "you can delete stuff to make more room" does seem rather shortsighted. They could at least update the firmware so we could run our VC and Wiiware games on them. (no, this wouldn't suddenly make it possible to run games on other systems) I don't play online enough to really care about headsets. Though it does seem like they could exploit the bluetooth support for this (just add profiles for generic headsets... similar to what they did for USB harddrives).ThePlothole

It seems like only 3rd parties are really using the Wii-mote to it's full use. Games like No More Heroes, Zack and Wiki, and Medal of Honor: H2 use the Wii mote better than all other NINTENDO games.

I think it's time for Nintendo to take more risks with it's software. How many awesome IP's have they come out with in the past 5 years? There have been a couple great ones, but nothing that stands up to Mario, Zelda, and Metroid.

awesome ideas! I agree with almost everything you say. There is no doubt that the Wii balance board will be pretty sweet.
